Publisher's Summary

Thirteen years ago, Moab Is My Washpot, Stephen Fry’s autobiography of his early years, was published to rave reviews and was a huge best seller. In the years since, Stephen Fry has moved into a completely new stratosphere, both as a public figure, and a private man. Now he is not just a multi-award-winning comedian and actor, but also an author, director, and presenter.

In January 2010 he was awarded the Special Recognition Award at the National Television Awards. Much loved by the public and his peers, Stephen Fry is one of the most influential cultural forces in the country. This dazzling memoir promises to be a courageously frank, honest and poignant read. It will detail some of the most turbulent and least-well-known years of his life, with writing that will excite you, make you laugh uproariously, move you, inform you, and, above all, surprise you.

Wonderful stuff. Fry's mastery of English, interesting biographics and self-deprecating wit form an enticing amalgam. If you are a fan of Fry buy it!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Having Stephen read his own stories feels like sitting in the court yard of an old pub on a warm summer day and having a chat with him. Very entertaining and funny.

"Fry the young man: A life exposed and explained"

An excellent autobiography of Stephen the Cambridge student and young comedian, actor, entertainer, broadcaster and chronicler of the 80's and early 90's. All delivered with honesty and his sonorous Oxbridge accent. Entertaining and informative. Wonderful.

    "Great book!"

Stephens story is certainly not dull at any point and he at all times paints a very vivid picture during his chronicles. I was aware he had a shall we say a colourful past and his rise to fame is very well documented through these narrated pages. Very enlightening I shall be listening to his others with great interest.

    Baah!

    "Very enjoyable!!"

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. I was sorry when it ended, I felt Stephen had become something of a friend. He kept me company on the walk home from work and on the nights when I lay in bed unable to sleep. He has such a warm tone to his voice and that along with his clever choice of words and phrases made the listen all the pleasanter. I loved his honesty and self depreciation, he sounds like a thoroughly splendid chap, someone you could enjoy sharing afternoon tea with, listening to his amusing stories. I shall say it again...I will miss listening.

    "Candid but not salacious"

Stephen discusses his twenties in an account that is detailed but also fair bounces along. I liked the fact that he recognises both his talent and opportunities, but does not do so in an egotistical way. He also talks about his friendships, and others he has worked with, disclosing just enough to keep interest without either disclosing too much or being mean. His voicing of the audiobook really helps to bring the account alive, and I will certainly listen to it again, in part, because it's just very relaxing. A good listen.

"Honest, witty and a literacy delight"

Steven Fry is clearly an extraordinary character with a many insecurities and self doubts as he has talent, admirers and friends. His dark side seems at odds with his humour and public image. His writing style is a delight and the fact that he narrated the audio book himself makes it all the more a joy to listen to.

why use all the oed when one or two words usually will do ....being a wordsmith doesn't make you a comedian. ..... smug unfunny and full of self praise.... The age of which recalls was full of great comedians of which he was not or is ....do they really all owe there success to him .....Stephen Fry then as now has surrounded himself by funny and talented people who he thinks he can share the lovey blanket with hoping to stay as close to the limelight as possible .....

"Well, I'm not really sure. Who am I? Such fun."

It was 'fine' {hee hee} tending from pity me to look at me. Yes it's a bio and likely a release for you and probably a help for others less, or indeed, more fortunate.
Well done Stephen you made it and you wrote a bio that was you. I enjoyed much of it but why the verbiage? Does it help? Why repeat, regurgitate, redo and restate so much?
But I did like it and for all your imagined faults I like you, if that is you.
Life is so 'demmed' confusing and so are people. Like a human Cambrian explosion, there are so many people and so many personalities to take in. You are right about addiction, it's normal but difficult to get your head around, or even your nose or lungs or liver or... whatever (pretend fake smiley).
Apart from that did you enjoy writing it should much as I did reading it? Cheers for making the car driving into Falmer so much better. Chin up and chin chin and gadgets are indeed fun.
