Publisher's summary

From the outrageously filthy and oddly innocent comedienne and star of the powerful 2015 film I Smile Back Sarah Silverman comes a memoir—her first book—that is at once shockingly personal, surprisingly poignant, and still pee-in-your-pants funny. If you like Sarah's television show The Sarah Silverman Program, or memoirs such as Chelsea Handler's Are You There Vodka? It's Me Chelsea and Artie Lange's Too Fat to Fish, you'll love The Bedwetter.

Critic reviews

"Silverman takes readers on a tour of the underground tunnel that is her mind, and believe me, it is as full of muck as the sewers of Paris. Only funnier....[A]n absurdist’s delight." ( Booklist)

Better when I read it Myself

I previously read this book myself and really liked it, but Sarah's reading actually made the book less funny. Very disappointing.

Mixed feelings, but funny

*3.5 stars*

I love, love, love celebrity audiobooks read by themselves. They usually do an excellent job with the narration (exception: Tiffany Haddish), and the books just sound so much more alive through audio format. That was certainly the case with The Bedwetter: Stories of Courage, Redemption, and Pee by Sarah Silverman.

I'm a Sarah Silverman fan, and I enjoyed her in this book, though it was scattered and uneven. It was like listening to Sarah Silverman ramble for a few hours, which isn't that bad of a way to spend your time.

I personally related to most of her stories being a person who wet the bed later than most kids (and pregnancy peeing doesn't count, right??), survived a Jewish summer camp in the Berkshires (shudder), and who grew up with affectionate and overprotective Jewish parents. I thought the book was really funny, even if Sarah reiterated perhaps a few hundred too many times that she is, in fact, Jewish... Yeah, we get it.

Overall, a enjoyable listening process and a moderately successful book, though structure and formatting isn't Sarah's friend.

Sarah Silverman

You’re just the right amount of Jewi-ness. Great stories and great motivation surrounding one person CAN CHOOSE the president.

A light, entertaining read

While I'm not a huge Sarah Silverman fan (I find her fascination with human bodily functions distressing, and suggest you not listen while eating breakfast!), I enjoyed this book. It's a light read, peppered with stories from her somewhat traumatic childhood and early years as a comic. It is far from a "tell-all," however--she glosses over her dating life and wastes a lot of time in non-sequitor humor bits, but it was engaging enough that I wasn't bored.

If you love Sarah, you will love this book!

It was very pleasant to listen to Sarah Silverman read her own book. I thought it was very fascinating on how some of her life experiences were integrated in the Sarah Silverman program. She is very opinionated and is not afraid to go in to details about any aspect of her life. It was surprising to learn of the many well known comedians that influenced Silverman's own career. If you're looking for an entertaining retrospective or just a good laugh, i highly recommend it.

Better than I Expected

Not a big Silverman fan as I think she is more annoying than funny but I love listening to comedy audiobooks and I love biographies and I thought this had a nice mix of both. A good listen and Silverman does a nice job as the narrator too.

Thoroughly Entertaining

I love Sarah Silverman and this book made me love her more. Very honest and self deprecating. Just great!

Meant as an audiobook

Hearing Sarah Silverman read her own book aloud seems it was the way it was meant to be. Not the greatest ending, but definitely worth listening to.

Okay, but not her best work

Sarah Silverman is sometimes brilliant, and often just so-so. This is one of the so-so times.

I think she's over-done the crudeness. Not because I'm a prude, but just because I'm numb to it from her over-use. Reminds me a bit of Howard Stern in that sense. It's not shocking anymore. Now it's just unfunny and drab.

I wasn't terribly moved by this book, and having just listened to David Mitchell's autobiography the bar was really, really high for humor.

I give it a solid "eh".
