Publisher's summary

From the outrageously filthy and oddly innocent comedienne and star of the powerful 2015 film I Smile Back Sarah Silverman comes a memoir—her first book—that is at once shockingly personal, surprisingly poignant, and still pee-in-your-pants funny. If you like Sarah's television show The Sarah Silverman Program, or memoirs such as Chelsea Handler's Are You There Vodka? It's Me Chelsea and Artie Lange's Too Fat to Fish, you'll love The Bedwetter.

Critic reviews

"Silverman takes readers on a tour of the underground tunnel that is her mind, and believe me, it is as full of muck as the sewers of Paris. Only funnier....[A]n absurdist’s delight." ( Booklist)

Adequate but not great...

I blame myself listening Bossypants right before giving this one a listen.... I found the audiobook entertaining in parts and I must admit you have to be pretty much devoid of a sense of humour or just plain dense not to laugh at some of her jokes but it wasn't that memorable or great of a title to me.

The thing that made me actually finish listening to the book was not so much the story itself but the performance by Sarah. Let's face it, Sarah is pretty funny and her quirky, in your face, spunky, no holds bar attitude while narrating this book kept you listening. She was the shining star in the whole thing.

The book felt long... I honestly must say the book felt really long and after listening to it I honestly don't remember half of what I listened. I do remember that I laughed at parts, smiled at parts and was thoroughly entertained in others. I also was quite bored at parts and found myself checking how much longer it will take for the book to end (not a good sign).

It's a good book, it is something that you can listen to and find some light adult rated fun. Far from amazing or just plain great even...

Comedic genious and great stories.

I laughed, I cried, I almost peed my pants. An interesting series of stories self depricating and yet honest. I already loved Ms. Silverman's comedy and found this book well woth the read.

A Must Read.....For Many

What did you love best about The Bedwetter?

Well the biggest thing you see is Sarah's comedic style shine through. Through the book there are some very hilarious moments, but for me the biggest thing about this book is its mixture of serious and relatable situations followed by some comedic relief. Of course that being said, one should be aware that her sense of humor is more shocking and controversial compared to other comedians and If you aren't a Sarah fan then this book might not be such an appetizing read. Something also to note is that the storyline jumps around switching between moments of her high school life to life in New York then to her early teenage years which make the book somewhat hard to follow.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Bedwetter?

The opening forward is by far my favorite moment in terms of comedic effect which is what you would expect from a book written by a comedian. Beyond this, the stories talking about her battle against depression is probably the most touching, showing that we all have our inner demons.

What about Sarah Silverman’s performance did you like?

I think the best thing about this audio book is the fact that she is the one narrating it. She can really bring to life to the characters in her book because they are all in her life. You also get the feel and mood from the tone of her voice, which brings a better sense to what the subject is.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

For me, the reaction was neither extreme nor blank. It brought both moments where you would laugh and moments where you would want to cry. It all depends on how you perceive comedy and personal drama and wither you can relate to it or not.

Any additional comments?

Lots of swearing, racial jokes, and pee, but regardless this is overall a great read

Refound love for Sarah

This is classic Silverman at her best. noone but her could pull it off. while the story of her life so far isn't the main draw, its her insightfulness and humor she brings to the table (along with her snarky narrative skills) that really shine. She manages to throw in a few gems of behind the scenes action that bring insight and laughter. Thank you Sarah!

Sarah is great, this book is ok

I love Sarah, and while I have to admit enjoying a peek into her childhood antics and life as a write etc., the stories were not particularly entertaining and some felt like filler.
