Publisher's summary

From the outrageously filthy and oddly innocent comedienne and star of the powerful 2015 film I Smile Back Sarah Silverman comes a memoir—her first book—that is at once shockingly personal, surprisingly poignant, and still pee-in-your-pants funny. If you like Sarah's television show The Sarah Silverman Program, or memoirs such as Chelsea Handler's Are You There Vodka? It's Me Chelsea and Artie Lange's Too Fat to Fish, you'll love The Bedwetter.

Critic reviews

"Silverman takes readers on a tour of the underground tunnel that is her mind, and believe me, it is as full of muck as the sewers of Paris. Only funnier....[A]n absurdist’s delight." ( Booklist)

Fun

Enjoyed this book. Sarah Silverman shows what unconditional love in family is and should be. Very funny. Listened to this book twice

Refound love for Sarah

This is classic Silverman at her best. noone but her could pull it off. while the story of her life so far isn't the main draw, its her insightfulness and humor she brings to the table (along with her snarky narrative skills) that really shine. She manages to throw in a few gems of behind the scenes action that bring insight and laughter. Thank you Sarah!

Sarah is great, this book is ok

I love Sarah, and while I have to admit enjoying a peek into her childhood antics and life as a write etc., the stories were not particularly entertaining and some felt like filler.

Surprisingly poignant

I had no idea Sarah Silverman had been through so much bad stuff! This is a unique memoir, mixing the sense of humor you'd expect from Silverman with an engaging story and worldview. It's a good listen if you're a fan of her work or if you just find her interesting.

Hilarious, but not superficial

If you could sum up The Bedwetter in three words, what would they be?

Obscene. Inspirational. Hilarious.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Sarah Silverman makes a lot of poop and fart jokes, but simultaneously has an important political and feminist message. Her jokes are carefully constructed and have a point--usually an eloquent and incisively observant social point. This book fully cemented my admiration and appreciation for her.

What does Sarah Silverman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Sarah Silverman has unique delivery and vocal inflections that add nuance to her already funny writing.

Some very funny parts

I just keep trying to love Sarah Silverman but I just don't think she's that funny. I thought maybe if I learned more about her through this book (I especially love when the author narrates the book) I'd understand her more and therefor become more fond of her. She has amazing credentials and I guess is a great comedy writer...in collaboration.
I wasn't a fan of her Comedy Central show either. She's just not my cup of tea but if you love her you'll love this book. It does have some very funny passages, especially when she talks about her family and reads verbatim her father's voicemails. Otherwise Meh, I found myself checking to see how much time was left often.

Very funny...

Funny book, but really her life was pretty dull until she made it big. Unsurprising that she had some serious problems with depression when she was a teenager--obviously her brain doesn't work like regular people.

love it!

most comedian books are just the re-telling of jokes. Sarah definitely surprised me with her lively, fun, and touching story. I did wonder, though... only a few months separate us age-wise (I'm 10 months older). I had a surgical procedure at 6 years old to correct my too-small bladder in Ohio. after that, I never had another bed wetting issue. why was that not an option to her? well... without that forming of character, Sarah may not be who she turned out to be, and my life would definitely be less fun not knowing of her. thank you for your story, for recording it yourself, and for validating my decision to write my own *forward* in my story I may one day tell.

Worth every second!

Incredibly funny and witty. I’m hooked and I’m now a fan! Thank you Sarah Silverman for many, I mean, many, laugh out loud moments in my car. I’m positive people thought I was being tickled. Well I was, by Sarah’s hilarious stories. And for that I thank you and I needed those laughs. Considering the crazy world right now in, 2020 😷
