Publisher's summary

From the outrageously filthy and oddly innocent comedienne and star of the powerful 2015 film I Smile Back Sarah Silverman comes a memoir—her first book—that is at once shockingly personal, surprisingly poignant, and still pee-in-your-pants funny. If you like Sarah's television show The Sarah Silverman Program, or memoirs such as Chelsea Handler's Are You There Vodka? It's Me Chelsea and Artie Lange's Too Fat to Fish, you'll love The Bedwetter.

Critic reviews

"Silverman takes readers on a tour of the underground tunnel that is her mind, and believe me, it is as full of muck as the sewers of Paris. Only funnier....[A]n absurdist’s delight." ( Booklist)

Love this woman, but she fell short :(

I’ve loved Sarah’s fearlessness in the spotlight since the very first moment I saw her on tv as a child. Speaking out for women, and not afraid to question the way things are. Love her! The beginning of the book was great…I mean, honestly, I’m enthused to read anything that Sarah puts out there. But after the beginning and some of the middle, I got the sense that it was a chore she needed to finish. As if she was so excited to start and then got discouraged or bored and it is apparent. I still love her. But one big piece of criticism I like to love forward for ms Silverman is… stop repeating the same funny jokes over and over. On your podcast you are constantly pulling out the same old jokes. We love you so we haha, but it gets old, Sarah. For example the “set of lips” bit, also, the “two fingers deep in your asshole clean” bit. I love you Sarah! I saw you in Miami and enjoyed every second even though I heard half the jokes before. I get it, comedy is more difficult LIVE that music.
People love rehearing and singing along to classics. Comedy repeated sounds old and repeated. Still love you. But your book lost its “umph” a little more than halfway through when you seemed tired of reading it (yes it was the Audio) and your reading of it,
or maybe just it, became obligatory and old boring news.
Still love you, Sarah, and am actively catching up on your podcast. Love hearing about the intimacy of you and ror-Rey 👩‍❤️‍💋‍👨

I have always loved Sarah. An adorable little frame and voice coming down on you like a freight train!! Keep pushing it to the edge and over.

Enjoyable, refreshing frankness

What did you love best about The Bedwetter?

I'm not a big Sarah Silverman fan. Her gross-out comedy is just not my cup of tea. But her memoir is honest and frank, and you can tell from it that she is a genuinely kind person who has made a lot of mistakes that she regrets during a time that she maybe didn't like herself that much. As a woman, I can really identify with that. In addition, she has been in comedy for a long time, so her memories are an interesting glimpse into the comedy scene in the 90s.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

It was sweet

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

You could definitely feel her emotion when she told stories of her past.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

This question is dumb.

Any additional comments?

I am still not a fan of Sarah Silverman's comedy (except for the Matt Damon song), but I am now sort of fond of her as a human being.

Loved it!

Being a fan it was no doubt that I enjoyed Sarah's memoir. I especially enjoyed her chronicles of childhood growing up outside of Manchester, NH.. where I am from. Some of the ending chapters got mushy and were not as witty as others, but only a little bit, and nonetheless enjoyable. I definitely had moments where I sat in the parking lot at work and finished listening to parts before I got out.

Naughty

I so enjoyed listening to her tell the funniest bits of her life. I love how naughty she is. I snickered and laughed out loud on the plane. She perfectly captures the life of a Jewess from the northeast. Thanks Sarah!

Why too preachy near the end

Have you listened to any of Sarah Silverman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Her stand up and sketch comedy has always made me laugh except when pushing her political views on others.

Any additional comments?

The book starts off great with her history, but gets so preachy during chapters 20-24 I couldn't finish the book.

Loved it

Sarah Silverman does exactly the perfect sort of job you'd expect someone of her talent to do in reading her own story. A wide -ranging and honest set of tales and observations from a funny lady.

Fun Read

Entertaining and easy to follow. Sarah is entertaining and relatable. She easily avoids getting caught up in vapid ramblings, whic, for me, seems to be a common pitfall in comedian autobio's. Great book to just relax and unwind with.
