Publisher's summary

In December 1975, the Lutz family moved into their new home on suburban Long Island. George and Kathleen Lutz knew that, one year earlier, Ronald DeFeo had murdered his parents, brothers, and sisters in the house, but the property - complete with boathouse and swimming pool - and the price were too good to pass up.

Twenty-eight days later, the entire Lutz family fled in terror.

This is the spellbinding, best-selling, true story that gripped the nation - the story of a house possessed by evil spirits, haunted by psychic phenomena almost too terrible to describe.

Jay Anson began as a copy boy on the New York Evening Journal in 1937 and later worked in advertising and publicity. With more than 500 documentary scripts for television to his credit, he was associated with Professional Films, Inc. He died in 1980.

Scary story and great voice

I love the voice of Ray and he does a great job! The story is great and even scarier since it was done with collaborations with the Lutz family!

I started listening to this book with fairly mild expectations but by the end of the first chapter I was hooked.

TRUE STORY??

That’s what they say, although it is listed as “Fiction” in the description on Audible. Well, whatever it is in reality, it feels very real, if quite a bit beyond belief (!), and downright terrifying. Great listen!! ☺️

Definitely better than the original movie

Even though this audiobook does start off slow, it is still way better than the original movie. Forget watching the boring movie, read or listen to the book.

Truly horrific whether you believe it or not

Starts slow, and the narrators voice seems very boring at first. However, as the story ramped up, I took comfort in the deep and predictable voice. Way better than the movies and way scarier! If you enjoy scary stories this is a must read.

Better than the movies

This book was far more entertaining than the movie adaptations of it. The books makes the family much more likeable and relatable. The story was honest and truly terrifying. This book is a psychological thriller and it keeps you on your toes!
