Publisher's summary

Nearly a decade ago Frank McCourt became an unlikely star when, at the age of 66, he burst onto the literary scene with Angela's Ashes, the Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir of his childhood in Limerick, Ireland. Then came 'Tis, his glorious account of his early years in New York.

Now here at last, is McCourt's long-awaited audiobook about how his thirty-year teaching career shaped his second act as a writer. Teacher Man is also an urgent tribute to teachers everywhere. In bold and spirited prose featuring his irreverent wit and heartbreaking honesty, McCourt records the trials, triumphs, and surprises he faces in public high schools around New York City.

Loved McCourt's Story

Would you consider the audio edition of Teacher Man to be better than the print version?

Absolutely! McCourt's Irish brogue and story-telling technique make this book, a collection of stories, perfect!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

McCourt's struggles to become a certified teacher for the New York public schools! His eating one of the student's sandwiches in class was hilarious. There are so many funny anecdotes in this book......

Any additional comments?

I you are or ever have been a teacher or worked with teenagers, don't miss this book!

Once again an amazing book

Frank McCourts reading of his own novel really brings the book to life! His three books still remain my favorite audiobooks! I wish there were more!

Life Changer

I haven't been inspired so much in years. I love the author and his two previous books but this one made me fly.

Excellent!

All the charm and wit of Frank McCourt without the misery of Angela's Ashes! Required reading for all parents with teenagers; required study for all teachers.

Third in the story

Not quite as entertaining as first two books but finishes his story and brings to an end a life lived. Very good story and saga

Everyone has a Story

Any additional comments?

Wow. What an amazing book!

Teacher Man was Frank McCourt's last of his three books and I usually dont say this, but I am sad that I dont have another book of his to read.

McCourt is the heroine of the every day man (or woman)! He proves that no matter what one does in their lives, there is a story to tell. This is exactly what he is telling his students by the end of the book. Stories are found all around us, even if you feel that nothing "special" happens in your life. BS.

I also loved how Frank wrote about being a teacher. It was so beautiful!

I also listened to this book and the book is narrated by the author, Frank McCourt. His Irish accented voice emerges me into the story completely!

I LOVE Frank McCourt!!!

becoming an educator

This is a good book putting things in prospective of what a teacher goes through daily. As true then, as it is today. Frank, your lessons live on, and guides us in the right path of becoming a teacher. We hold our frosty pints up high. Here's to you... Teacher Man.

To all of my many teachers...thank you. And thanks to Mr. McCourt for giving me a new appreciation for teachers everywhere. Wonderful, quirky story.

A Must Read Book For Every Teacher

As a novice teacher I often wondered what is awaiting me ahead. This lovely and authentic book, read by the author, gave me a precise notion of what teaching is all about.
It’s humorous, honest and daring.
I absolutely enjoyed it.
