Publisher's summary

Nominated for a 2014 Grammy in the Spoken Word category!

Hilarious and heartfelt observations on aging from one of America's favorite comedians, now that he's 65, and a look back at a remarkable career.

Billy Crystal is 65, and he's not happy about it. With his trademark wit and heart, he outlines the absurdities and challenges that come with growing old, from insomnia to memory loss to leaving dinners with half your meal on your shirt. In humorous chapters like "Buying the Plot" and "Nodding Off," Crystal not only catalogues his physical gripes, but offers a road map to his 77 million fellow baby boomers who are arriving at this milestone age with him. He also looks back at the most powerful and memorable moments of his long and storied life, from entertaining his relatives as a kid in Long Beach, Long Island, and his years doing stand-up in the Village, up through his legendary stint at Saturday Night Live, When Harry Met Sally, and his long run as host of the Academy Awards. Listeners get a front-row seat to his one-day career with the New York Yankees (he was the first player to ever "test positive for Maalox"), his love affair with Sophia Loren, and his enduring friendships with several of his idols, including Mickey Mantle and Muhammad Ali. He lends a light touch to more serious topics like religion ("the aging friends I know have turned to the Holy Trinity: Advil, bourbon, and Prozac"); grandparenting; and, of course, dentistry. As wise and poignant as they are funny, Crystal's reflections are an unforgettable look at an extraordinary life well lived.

Still Foolin' 'Em includes a portion recorded in front of a live studio audience.

Critic reviews

“At 65, Billy Crystal is a master of comic timing, as he demonstrates during his narration of Still Foolin' ‘Em. A fine actor and nine-time Oscar host, Crystal knows exactly how to deliver his artful blend of touching memoir and rueful riffs on the indignities of aging. Several chapters were recorded before a live audience, giving him the opportunity to exchange banter and charm a crowd – as he no doubt will many listeners…In both modes, however, he proves himself accomplished, nuanced, and – best of all – very funny.” —AudioFile Magazine

"Filled with hilarious and heartfelt observations on aging, Still Foolin' 'Em, the Grammy-nominated memoir by one of America's favorite comedians, outlines the absurdities and challenges that come with growing older. This 2014 Audie Audiobook of the Year is read by Billy Crystal himself, with his trademark wit and heart." - PopSugar.com

“Billy Crystal's new memoir is everything you'd expect from this acclaimed actor, writer, producer, film director and world-class comedian. Though the book is a great read, this audio version, performed by Crystal himself, is even better. His timing is perfect, he laughs, ad-libs a little and even chokes up as he talks about how much his wife of 43 years means to him…But be careful! Listening while driving, treading on a treadmill or stirring up a stir-fry could be hazardous to life and limb – this is unredacted, laugh-out-loud humor, Billy Crystal at his bravura best.” —BookPage

Laugh out loud funny & listened TWICE...

What made the experience of listening to Still Foolin' 'Em the most enjoyable?

Being like one long comedy sketch called his life, Billy Crystal keeps you laughing and listening for hours and leaves you wanting more! I laughed out loud all the way through and now listening for the 2nd time and planning on repeat performances every now and then when I need a good laugh--or just a reminder to enjoy the ride. The 8+ hours flew by like no time at all. Get this great audio and laugh your way through it too. This will be great for the morning or evening commute or to make a long trip fly by!

What does Billy Crystal bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Billy delivered several chapters in front of a live audience and that gave it a "kick".

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When he talked about his relationship with his wife and daughters...it was beautiful and heartwarming.

You Can Make This Stuff Up...But, Billy Lived It!

Where does Still Foolin' 'Em rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

So far, Mr. Crystal has joined the ranks of the greats reading their own books; Carl Reiner, Garry Marshall, Tim Conway...these are stories from my favorites. I can't imagine anyone else reading his story...why would anyone even listen to it?

What other book might you compare Still Foolin' 'Em to and why?

There's nothing like it; it's unique because it's one mans life!

What does Billy Crystal bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

You live the story! Mr. Crystal is so descriptive, at times, I could imagine myself there. He brought so much heart and warmth to certain moments; I admit, I got a little emotional at times. My late father loved Billy...I thought of him often and wanted to share the stories with him.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Billy's experience with the death of his Uncle, and letting go.

Any additional comments?

There's been some negative responses to Billy's language in the book; this is the real Billy Crystal...as fans, we want to know who they are...we were warned, we're adults...don't knock the book or man because he doesn't talk like Billy Graham.

Great BIO of one of my favorite Comedians

What did you love best about Still Foolin' 'Em?

Suburb walk through the life of Billy Crystal, with laughs all along the way.
I was surprised by how many celebs Billy knew as he rose to fame and yet he presents them with grace and humility.
Also he faces his age with a joke and a smile and helps the listener do the same.

I grew up on this Guy

What did you love best about Still Foolin' 'Em?

My introduction to Billy Crystal was on the show Soap. Like many I thought his character was real in life, which goes to prove how good an actor he is. I enjoyed his comedy throughout my life, and this book is a great inside look as to his struggles and successes. A great listen or read.

Great read/listen

I have always been a Crystal fan and this book just showed me that even through his acting that I’ve also kind of known the type of person he was. My father and I have always had a running joke which is “Oh no! The guy missed a bible question because he didn’t know what Deuteronomy was.” Only true Billy Crystal fans know what this means. Billy if you’re reading this you’re awesome man! I hope I get to meet you one day.

First on my list...Outstanding performance!

I learned little tid bits of his life I would never thought was true.

What does Billy Crystal bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He puts his personality in very sentance to make it as he is speaking directly to you.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Where does he come up with all this stuff?

Any additional comments?

Just remarkable. If you have ever enjoyed any of Billy's humor, this brings the circle all together. The stories, personality, and true life stories give you a better insight of who Billy Crystal really is.

Billy Crystal's book was addictive for me

Would you consider the audio edition of Still Foolin' 'Em to be better than the print version?
Yes. Hearing his story in his own voice. Hearing him do all the impressions, the delivery. No comparison to a written book. This one is a MUST audio

What did you like best about this story?
His drive and strength and loyalty to his family.

Which character – as performed by Billy Crystal – was your favorite?
??? so many? Favorite? Mohammed Ali. Jack Nicholson also. :-)

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When he brought Mickey Mantle's wife to the stadium after it was ready to shoot his movie '61'. Not to mention the work that went into that place so it would be perfect. I do not want to give anything away so I will not go into detail but I believe that is the kind of perfectionism that not only makes a great artist, it's also made obvious we are discovering a good honest man.

Any additional comments?
If you want to laugh out loud and feel like you've made a new friend, get this audio book and then listen carefully.
