Still Foolin' 'Em Audiobook

Still Foolin' 'Em: Where I've Been, Where I'm Going, and Where the Hell Are My Keys

Billy Crystal is 65, and he's not happy about it. With his trademark wit and heart, he outlines the absurdities and challenges that come with growing old, from insomnia to memory loss to leaving dinners with half your meal on your shirt. In humorous chapters like ""Buying the Plot"" and ""Nodding Off,"" Crystal not only catalogues his physical gripes, but offers a road map to his 77 million fellow baby boomers who are arriving at this milestone age with him. He also looks back at the most powerful and memorable moments of his long and storied life, from entertaining his relatives as a kid in Long Beach, Long Island, and his years doing stand-up in the Village, up through his legendary stint at Saturday Night Live, When Harry Met Sally, and his long run as host of the Academy Awards. Listeners get a front-row seat to his one-day career with the New York Yankees (he was the first player to ever ""test positive for Maalox""), his love affair with Sophia Loren, and his enduring friendships with several of his idols, including Mickey Mantle and Muhammad Ali. He lends a light touch to more serious topics like religion (""the aging friends I know have turned to the Holy Trinity: Advil, bourbon, and Prozac""); grandparenting; and, of course, dentistry. As wise and poignant as they are funny, Crystal's reflections are an unforgettable look at an extraordinary life well lived.

"Great life story of a funny man"

Loved this book of Billy Crystal's life. He can fool me anytime. The only thing I didn't like was the use of all the f*** word. I was taught intelligent people don't need to use that word to tell a story and a little part of me goes "You don't have to use that word to be funny" every time I hear a comedian use it in a monologue." Billy seems to have a great life, family, and has his heart in a good place, even if he is a Democrat.

    "Funny and touching"

I am finishing this book two weeks before my 65th birthday. A great reminder of what matters in life as well as a play-by-play of Billy's personal and professional life. Baseball fans will enjoy this book even if they haven't appreciated Billy Crystal.
And the narrator sounds JUST like him.

    "Crystal is a Gem!"
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The close relationship between Billy and his wife Janet. Amazing to meet such a famous comedian not jaded or spoiled by the twinkle of Hollywood. Billy is a a real Mensch!

    Any additional comments?

I saw Billy Crystal on Broadway in 700 Sundays--this book follows along the same timeline but with MUCH more thrown in. The variety of stand-up snippets along with his own readings of his life makes this a truly funny read--and clever as the man himself.

I couldn't even finish this. It felt like it was written by a very desperate young person, and was full of sad cliches.

"MADE ME LOVE BILLY CRYSTAL EVEN MORE!"
Would you consider the audio edition of Still Foolin' 'Em to be better than the print version?

Yes, because Billy Crystal's voice read it. It was amazing to hear him! I didn't want the audiobook to end!

What did you like best about this story?

I love his stories about his parents. I've lost both my parents so hearing him talk about the love of his parents made me realize we all feel the same way for our parents.

What does Billy Crystal bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His emotions and just the way he tells the stories. So special.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I love love love his voice and my heart ached when he described how his uncle died and he was at this bedside. I choked up at that recollection. I was at my dads bedside when he passed away and he described it it perfectly how it is to be bedside to an elderly family member passing away.

    Any additional comments?

Love Billy Crystal and would buy another audio book by him in a split second! Well done!

"Didn't want it to be over"

Simply put, what a fabulous storyteller. It was great to hear more about experiences of being in comedy through his eyes as well as a heartfelt reflection on his life and meaning. A great read for people of all ages seeking to embrace life and live it to the fullest. There were moments I felt I wasn't sure I agreed with some of his messages, but then he'd say something totally redeeming. After all, it's his memoirs and who cares if people agree with his points of view or not. People could only hope to be so unapologetically truthful.
