Publisher's summary

Early in the decade of 2000, the Department of Human Services of Ellsworth, Maine, Child Protective Division, along with other municipalities, came under scrutiny for their questionable policies and immoderate tactics. Discover how a toothache led to a two-year nightmare for this quiet and law-abiding family. (Well...kinda quiet and law-abiding.)

Sky is a multi-emotion-provoking love story about a mismatched couple and their struggle to save their marriage amidst their valiant battle for custody of their child against this powerful but once highly criticized state agency. An essential book for any parent who has picked up a drink or a drug. Interspersed with actual documents from the case, including brief news clippings, highly personal letters, and court decisions, Mr. West offers in chronological exposé, a passionate exploration and stark contrast to the realities of substance abuse and parenting, with mental illness and morals and with his occasional awareness of a presence of God. Written with wry humor, seemingly at times to mask his own heartbreak, West lays out his perspective with blunt, piercing honesty while allowing the listener to be the ultimate judge.

Eye-opening and Faith Inspiring

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

The narration could have been better, but overall a good listen.

Learn from someone's mistakes

Any additional comments?

This is a very sad story, that unfortunately repeats over and over because of bad choices and attitudes. They say that it’s wise to learn from our mistakes, and even wiser to learn from someone else's mistakes. We can learn from these couple’s mistakes and make different choices to avoid what happened to them.

The narration needs to flow more naturally; it’s a little monotone, but I got used to it after a the first couple of chapters.

I received this audiobook free for an honest review by the author, narrator, or publisher.

ok? ok. ok? ok

Though I do feel was the total victim here is Sky, I did not enjoy this story. I found a poorly written.
The dialogue to me was just flat. The wife would ask this big long question and put ok end of her sentence and the husband would reply with ok. Drove me nuts and have found over and over and over in this book.
Though I did understand that sometimes there could be bad circumstances or an accident or coincidence etc. there were to many to make me wonder. Can't help feeling that the wife was a little not right even before she had Sky.

With all that said, I do feel the parents were taken advantage of by the system. But I do not believe every case is like that.

The narrator to me was kind it dry, at times it felt like he was reading an encyclopedia. Maybe that is why I didn't think the book was so enjoyable?

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.
