C.S. Lewis was one of the most loved and best-known authors, having written The Narnia Chronicles, 'The Screwtape Letters, and Mere Christianity. In this recording, Shadowlands tells us the unique story of his tragic romance with Joy Davidman: How he found true love and was drawn out of his shell, but it was only fleeting, as she died just months after they got married.
Brian Sibley skillfully looks at Lewis' childhood and his literary legacy and shows us how, in the end, despite grief and grievous doubts, Lewis' faith shone through. Shadowlands was also a BAFTA-winning BBC film, a stage play by William Nicholson, and a feature film.

David Suchet's narration of Shadowlands was a stellar performance. I enjoyed the straight forward way the writer presented the topic and the clarity in which the story was told. - I can't stand bio's that drone on with no purpose other than to drone on !
After watching the film "Shadowlands" which has become my most favourite film, I just wanted to know more and more about CS and Joy and the love they had for each other. I also thought it was wonderful that at least he knew the beautiful love of a woman, albeit late in his life. However, the trajectory and tragedy of his life was that his happiness with another human being was shortlived. For example, his mother died when he was very young and Joy was taken away from him far too soon. This is what made Shadowlands such a powerful and thought-provoking movie. I just had to listen to the narration by David Suchet which was addictive.I plan to listen to it again. The reason I have an affinity with C S Lewis is because I was a mature aged University student at the time of seeing the film and it spoke to me in so many ways especially when I spent a day at Oxford in 1996.
For me Shadowlands has no comparison with anything else I have read.
David Suchet brings light and shade to anything he reads. His modulated voice is perfect in its delivery.
Falling in love with someone can happen at any time, in any place and at any age.
I would recommend this audiobook to anyone who is interested in the life of C S Lewis.
David Suchet does an excellent job reading - with the different voices of the different people he brings their characters to life.
Yes As I stated he has a great gift. I've not found anything he wrote uninteristing. The old saying you don't want to put it down.
His complet love and devotion.
His able influxtion.
