A collection of humorous autobiographical essays by the Academy Award-nominated actress and star of Up in the Air and Pitch Perfect.
"I'm excited to publish my first book, and because I get uncomfortable when people have high expectations, I'd like to use this opportunity to showcase my ineptitude and pettiness and the frequency with which I embarrass myself. And while many of my female inspirations who have become authors are incredibly well educated and accomplished comedy writers, I'm very, very funny on Twitter, according to BuzzFeed and my mom, so I feel like this is a great idea. Quick question: Are run-on sentences still frowned upon? Wait, is ending a sentence with a preposition still frowned upon? I mean, upon frowned? Dammit!" (Anna Kendrick)
Anna Kendrick's autobiographical collection of essays amusingly recounts memorable moments throughout her life, from her middle-class upbringing in New England to the blockbuster movies that have made her one of Hollywood's most popular actresses today. Expanding upon the witty and ironic dispatches for which she is known, Anna Kendrick's essays offer her one-of-a-kind commentary on the absurdities she's experienced on her way to and from the heart of pop culture.

I have never been able to finish a celebrity autobiography before. Midway through this book I realized that this was something that I would listen to several times over. Anna is brilliant and can effortlessly put herself in the mind of reader in a way that makes it seem like a real conversation. I enjoy that she gets right to the point and doesn't add any fluff to lengthen the story. This book never came off as self absorbed or fake, which is refreshing. All together it is worth a credit.
Like to listen to fantasy or sci fi while riding my bicycle or on the commute to work.
great quick listen on my commute. funny anecdotes on her jobs and childhood in theatre.
I loved this from beginning to end. I really hope people take a chance on this. I found her so likeable. I would read another book by her tomorrow!
this book was really good having it read by Anna Kendrick herself made the story come alive.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who's ever felt like an outsider in a group and Anna's clever ways of telling stories of her childhood and her experiences in life where in lightning and comical.
thank you :-)
The first time I saw Anna Kendrick in a movie, I thought, "Wow. What a fantastic person. I must find more movies that she's in."
I won't say here what that movie was, because I was not the demo they were aiming at, but suffice it to say, through the series the highlights for me were giant wolves, and Anna Kendrick.
I did subsequently watch more of her performances, and the overwhelming conclusion was that she was a very interesting, funny, talented, intelligent, and yes, beautiful person. I know that the previous sentence doesn't really make sense because those ordinary weren't her, but just roles that she played. It's both unrealistic, and extremely unfair to judge an actor but the characters they've portrayed.
That being said, maybe it was less an impression of her that I was forming, and more of just a hope that there was this attractive outcast that was a totally normal person that gets to live her dream.
I brought all of that, plus a few interviews from podcasts, and an open mind to buying this book. I was not disappointed. The name of this book says it all. It's not just a cute title... it's a mindset.
Ms. Kendrick comes off as...no wait... She IS your best friend, little sister, favorite aunt, drinking buddy, and Jessie's girl.
Before reading this book, I liked the idea of Anna Kendrick. Now, after finishing it (all in one day I might add), I realize that Anna Kendrick isn't some starlet on a pedestal... Anna Kendrick is us. And for that, Anna, we thank you.
to:dr- Buy this book and thank me later.
Anna Kendrick's performance of her own composition is humorous and compelling. Her delivery exhibits dead pan and dry humor. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a light and honest read.
Great book. The storytelling is very conversational and flows very well. It's like listening to an old friend tell stories. Anna Kendricks performance of the book is great and adds a sense of authenticity.
If you like Anna Kendrick then buy it. If you don't like her, don't.
She says that what she wrote is for entertainment. Ok, that is fine by me. I guess is to help her tell those juicy stories and don't feel embarrased. Which she shouldn't be. People has done worse. Actually, I thought it was going to be more intense and more, more, raw. But hey she can't please everyone.
I like the fact that she is the reader. Much better idea. Whatever she did it sounds better coming from her mouth. I like to asume she did this and more but left it out. By the sound of her voice you can tell she missed more information and juicy details. Perhaps in another book. Not.
While using headphones I felt she was sitting next to me gossiping about her juicy adventures in hollywood land.
"I wish it had just kept on going."
As one who has always struggled to find a book/audio book entertaining this was something i looked forward to since pre order and i wasn't in any way disappointed, it's funny and very interesting and I 100% recommended it to anyone who is either a fan or is just fancying a new book to read or especially listen to, in the end all i can say is this is really really great and is so worth buying for absolutely anyone 😊😊😊
I enjoyed listening to this book, Anna is very honest and funny. I would recommend this book
"Funny & Charming"
I loved this and listened to it all in one go! What a funny & charming woman.
"If you're a prune, stay away..."
If you're not, this is such a brilliant insight into Anna and her personality. From virginity and sex, drugs and not drugs, and all too real anxious person emotions. I laugh many times during this. Would definitely listen again.
Is there gonna be a part two?
"Love her even more now"
Love how she uses lines from her films in the book! Also a great insight into her life as a child and celeb
Anna Kendrick is hilarious. U didn't want this book to finish. I really enjoyed listening to her and what she had to say
Really funny and interesting. Author reads it very well as you might expect! Would recommend.
"Not a wasted syllable"
Honest, funny, to the point. Unlike this review which needs 15 words to be published.
"Best thing I've ever heard!"
Best thing I have ever heard. Anna Kendrick is so amazing. This is my first time using audible so this is actually the first book I've heard. So worth it.
"Kendrick is genius"
If you're a fan, this is worth a listen.
Kendrick's well known humour comes through in almost all her stories of a young, aspiring actress, her struggles with money and fame, award nights, and an almost deadly experience on a boat! And let's not forget her funny, and relatable, experiences around sex and boyfriends.
A truly excellent book. Well done, and thank you, Anna.
