Publisher's summary

In 1983 four self-described 'knuckleheads' burst out of the neo-punk rock scene in L.A. with their own unique brand of cosmic hard-core mayhem funk. Over 20 years later, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, against all the odds, have become one of the most successful bands in the world. Though the band has gone through many incarnations, Anthony Kiedis, the group's lyricist and dynamic lead singer, has been there for the whole rollercoastar ride.

Scar Tissue far transcends the typical rock biography, because Anthony Kiedis is anything but a typical rock star. It is instead a searingly honest memoir - a compelling story of dedication and debauchery, of intrigue and integrity, of recklessness and redemption. It is a story that could only have come out of Hollywood.

Could only be a hollywood life

Where does Scar Tissue rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Up near the top for sure. The narrator is fantastic & the book has got a great mix of highs, lows, funny bits, sad bits and so on that make it really easy to keep listening.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved the stories behind the music. What was going on in their lives when they were doing which shows. Anthony Keidis very unconventional childhood is interesting, as is his continued functioning as a musician to such a high level, whilst leading such a dysfunctional long time drug interest!

Have you listened to any of Rider Strong’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Never, but this one was fantastic!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

No idea, but I would love them to make a film!

Brilliant

What an incredible story!. And not only that Anthony is still alive. I've heard the Chilli Peppers commercial songs, but never been a mad huge fan. After hearing this I want to go out now and listen to every album as I feel I now have a small understanding of where it all comes from.
This warts and all story gives a great education on drugs and drug abuse and how the minds that are attached to these abused bodies work. I loved every minute, was gutted every time you lost the battle and cheered when you could stay sober. I had to listen to the last 3 hours in one hit - I couldn't turn off. To Anthony - Thank you for sharing so much.
To Rider - So very well read.

Interesting Insight

Where does Scar Tissue rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is toward the top of my library in terms of quality. It is an interesting account, it's a very long book that deals in depth with each stage of the band's progression, with a solid delivery by the narrator. I'm not the hugest fan of the band, but I lived through their times and it's a really interesting account of that. I admire the author's candid account, it doesn't seem like he held much back in the writing of this memoir.
