Publisher's summary

When the Navy sends their elite, they send the SEALs. When the SEALs send their elite, they send SEAL Team Six—a secret unit tasked with counterterrorism, hostage rescue, and counterinsurgency.

In this dramatic, behind-the-scenes chronicle, Howard Wasdin takes listeners deep inside the world of Navy SEALs and Special Forces snipers, beginning with the grueling selection process of Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL - the toughest and longest military training in the world.

After graduating, Wasdin faced new challenges. First, there was combat in Operation Desert Storm as a member of SEAL Team Two. Then, the Green Course: the selection process to join the legendary SEAL Team Six (ST6), with a curriculum that included practiced land warfare to unarmed combat. More than learning how to pick a lock, they learned how to blow the door off its hinges.

Finally, as member of ST6, he graduated from the most storied and challenging sniper program in the country: the Marine Corps Scout Sniper School. Eventually, of the 18 snipers in ST6, Wasdin became the best—which meant one of the best snipers on the planet.

Less than half a year after sniper school, he was fighting for his life. The mission: capture or kill Somalian warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid. From rooftops, helicopters, and alleys, Wasdin hunted Aidid and killed his men whenever possible. But everything went quickly to hell when his small band of soldiers found themselves fighting for their lives, cut off from help and desperately trying to rescue downed comrades during a routine mission. The Battle of Mogadishu, as it became known, left 18 American soldiers dead and 73 wounded. Howard Wasdin had both of his legs nearly blown off while engaging the enemy. His explosive combat tales and inside details of becoming one of the world’s deadliest snipers combine to make this the most thrilling and important memoir by a navy SEAL since Lone Survivor.

Interesting Insight on this Elite Fighting Force

Where does SEAL Team Six rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I have listened to almost 200 audio books from Audible and this is in the top 10%.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Howard was my favorite character. He is the type individual who is drawn to the SEALS and does his job with little or no fanfare.

Which scene was your favorite?

I enjoyed the encounter with the local rednecks.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I was moved by the compassion shown to the young boy who had his foot and leg blown away by the militia and the risk taken by Seal team six to treat the boy and risk detection by the hostiles.

Great Read

When my husband downloaded this book for a road trip, I rolled my eyes. “Okay” I thought, something to fall asleep to. No. This book was engaging, interesting, and alluring. The structure was a bit confusing with the first few chapters, but I didn’t mind too much. This book helped me see and experience a lifestyle with which I was unfamiliar and I really enjoyed that. It was also pretty hilarious at times, which I was not expecting.
I would absolutely recommend you read this book.

A-FREAKING-MAZING

This story is so amazing and inspiring. I have always had such a deep appreciation for service members and the stories they tell of helping others and their heroism in battle. I've never served but these books are better than super hero stories and real. I choked up on more than one chapter and highly recommend for anyone interested in the training of a seal team 6 member or the events leading up to the "black hawk down" battle

Fantastic!

I love hearing about the lives of those who have served our country so bravely. This was an excellent account of Wasdin and his Seal Team Six experience. This book was well done as far as capturing interest at every moment. And, of course, Ray Porter is always a plus when it comes to narration!

Great book, well worth the money and time

If you could sum up SEAL Team Six in three words, what would they be?

Honest, insightful, humorous

What was one of the most memorable moments of SEAL Team Six?

The honest explanation of how politics hindered these men from completing their tasks.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes!

Any additional comments?

Aside from "Inside Delta Force" it is the best military book I've read (heard). They are both books that should be required reading for all High School graduates, they truly remind us of the sacrifices made that allow us to live in a free society.
