Running for My Life is not a story about Africa or track and field athletics. It is about outrunning the devil and achieving the impossible: faith, diligence, and the desire to give back. It is the American dream come true and a stark reminder that saving one can help to save thousands more.
Lopez Lomong chronicles his inspiring ascent from a barefoot lost boy of the Sudanese Civil War to a Nike sponsored athlete on the US Olympic Team. Though most of us fall somewhere between the catastrophic lows and dizzying highs of Lomong's incredible life, every reader will find in his story the human spark to pursue dreams that might seem unthinkable, even from circumstances that might appear hopeless.

"Lopez Lomong's story is one of true inspiration. His life is a story of courage, hard work, never giving up, and having hope where there is hopelessness all around. Lopez is a true role model." (Michael Johnson, Olympic gold medalist)
"This true story of a Sudanese child refugee who became an Olympic star is powerful proof that God gives hope to the hopeless and shines a light in the darkest places. Don't be surprised if after reading this incredible tale, you find yourself mysteriously drawn to run alongside him." (Richard Stearns, president of World Vision US and author of The Hole in Our Gospel)
For me to give a book 5 stars it must do two things. One is for the story to be so interesting I will research things related to the book. The second is I must feel I will remember certain aspects of this book years from now.
This book does both.
I won't soon forget the journey and resilience of Lopez Lomong. His story of faith in the midst of evil and his triumph over it is a hope-filled example for all of humanity.
I only heard audio and that was good
lopez his persistence in making it
his ability to keep a positive outlook
this book opened my eyes to the lost boys and conditions in sudan
Listening to this book allowed me to feel the passion and dedication the author applies to all his efforts. He realistically seeks recognition of the basic dignity of all people, but especially his hometown and the 'lost boys'.
I recommend this book to anyone, but especially people of privilege who can make a difference in these efforts.
Lopez his story it's all inspiring. It's reassuring that there is a God in heaven above. many Americans need to read and hear his story. promises and providence of God are sure. it's amazing what can happen when people allow themselves to be used for something bigger than themselves. I highly recommend this book. The reading was very easy to listen to. only took me part of a couple of days to get through it because I did not want to put it down.
This is my favourite book in a long long time. From the moment I started reading - I could not stop. I am sad now that it is over. Lopez has an amazing story. It is told in a light hearted way that had me laughing and crying.
One of my favorite memoirs I have read or listened to! I loved the hopeful and thankful spin he had on everything!
I loved how he could go through such a horrific event so early in his life and remain so hopeful and truly joyous! It inspired me so much!
My favorite scene was probably when he came to America and learned how to live again and what love was, thanks to his new parents. It was funny and so inspiring at the same time! Loved it!
It made me really want to join him on his project to help Sudan recover! It made me want to do something to help his cause and the people there!
It was truly a great book!
Yes! This story was so incredibly real and inspiring. It gave me the wake up call to be more grateful for what I have and the push to help others that struggle in life.
So many things I liked best.....I just couldn't stop listening. I actually looked forward to my time off so I could listen to this book.
I would highly recommend this to anyone.
