New York Times best-selling author Iyanla Vanzant recounts the last decade of her life and the spiritual lessons learned—from the price of success during her meteoric rise as a TV celebrity on Oprah, the Iyanla TV show (produced by Barbara Walters), to the dissolution of her marriage and her daughter’s 15 months of illness and death on Christmas day.
Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Iyanla shares why everything we need to learn is reflected in our relationships and explains the strength and wisdom she has gained by supporting others in their journeys to make sense out of the puzzle pieces of their lives.

NO, but only because this is an 11 hour audio book. I would listen to portions again, but the length makes a full second listening a challenge.
I LOVE Iyanla Vanzant. I discovered her during her reconciliation with Oprah in her final season and then have watched her faithfully on OWN since and looked her up on YouTube. There is something about her and the way she speaks and delivers her advice that makes me unable to turn away. She has so many words of wisdom I have taken with me. I purchased this so I could get to know her background better as I continue my journey with her as her new TV show starts this summer. However, that said, Iyanla is not known to paraphrasing (neither am I) and at times she goes into a VERY long form relaying of a story that goes on and on and could have been told in a much shorter fashion. I truly believe, while well intentioned, I would have gotten a bit more from Peace from Broken Pieces had she cut back a bit on every single detail in some areas and gotten this down by a few chapters in length.
Iyanla is one of the more powerful and thought provoking speakers I have ever encountered. Her voice, as always, conveys an emotion and faith that simply would not come across in writing. Hearing her tell the story was 1000 times better than my reading her words.
Having lost love ones and had failed relationships, I felt her pain. I would love to meet her. I've made similar mistakes. She is able to admit her career and life mistakes with humor, she is able to make you feel she understands. It is a touching story.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. I recommend this book and all the teachings or Iyanla Vanzant. This coming from an almost middle aged (did I admit that?) Irish Catholic man who lost my younger brother decades ago and my mother to cancer (as she lost her daughter) just over a year ago. A woman who was the sun in my sky. It's two parts, it's 11 hours and you need to take in this book a piece at a time. Otherwise, buy now!
yes, Iyanla Vanzant speaks the truth. It takes a down to earth person to give of her true experinces of such real parts of the deep hurts and struggles of her growing up and walk through life...
There are not many books I can really compare with that has been as real as hers that I have personally read other than the one and only great poet Maya Angalo herself.
I really enjoyed the entire book! every scene was written so real. but if I had to pick a part, it would be the part at the end of the book where she breaks the generational curse of the line of females from the generations before her when she supports her fourteen year old granddaughter to stand up to her father and ask for something she wanted with courage and faith.
No it was the type of book that one would want to savior and digust a little at a time, to have listend to it in one sitting would have been like running through Iyanla's life, it would have been almost disrespectful to have listend to in one session.
I reccomend this book to all types of people especially women who are going through crises of losing someone close, or a single mother struggling to make it through school or trying to create their own business or write a book just to name a few. It will give one strength and courage they didn't know they had. It will also give one the strength to stand up inside ones self...
I am a thirty-something Californian who works in the field of human services, particularly focused on empowering children and families.
I have not read the print version.
I LOVED Iyanla's narration, which is full of liveliness and passion. You can hear who she really is and all the emotions she went through. This makes the audiobook SO special!!! I have tried to listen to many other books only to be disappointed by the boring, robotic narrators. This was done by Iyanla herself and it made it so enjoyable to listen to.
I absolutely HATE when good books are ruined in audio version because of boring, snoring, robotic, unhuman sounding narrators. This book definitely is one I did not want to end!!! Iyanla's voice is hypnotic, full of character and charisma. Not a disappointment!
I was going through a breakup and need somethng to ease my mind. This is my first audiobook ever. It helped me to calm down the anxiety that waited for me every night causing me not to sleep until the wee hours of the morning. Hearing Iyanla's story touched the very deep parts of my own spirit. I could identify with the things that she went through in her life. I chucked up my own crybaby ways and weathered my storm
Iyanla's voice is so calming. I loved her style of "story-telling"
I enjoyed her entire performance of everyone that touched her life (positively or negatively)
Absolutely, I did not want to turn it off. I would set the time for 45 miinutes before getting in the bed, then .another 45 minutes until I just let it lull me to sleep.
This book is so amazing! We always think that we are the only ones to go through things and experience so really bad times but this book allows to see that God does have a plan for those bad times to get you to that place of Peace! I love this book.....thank you Ms. Vanzant!
First off I'd like to say thank you for sharing your life's story. I laughed and cried along the way, their were times I felt I was in that "Sister Circle". This book is a must read for anyone going through or has gone through some very difficult situations. 5***** just isn't enough to say how great this book really is!! 👍👍👏👏
Yes,Just wonderful! Amazing, Heart felt, Very Sad but uplifting and I just wanted it to keep going.
This book was HEAVY. my heart, soul, and spirit wept throughout my reading this book. Iyanla's honesty gently cracked me open and I began to face my own challenges as she confessed hers. Bless her heart and life for sharing it all.
"Freedom in the Valley"
l have been a pseudo fan of Iyanla for some time and had misgivings about what she stood for. I was heavily religious then but recently, l became drawn to her work in powerful way. l follow her on Facebook and then this volume comes to my attention. l felt her struggle and the flitting self-doubt she wrestled with. l walked with her on every page and cried and laughed and sensed the pathology she recognised. l went through mine as she walked through hers in writing. l have a new found respect and honour for this giant of a woman. I recommend this book highly as a volume of understanding, self-discovery and freedom in the valley.
l am in her corner.
What an amazing book!! I was hooked from the start to the very end i would recommend to anyone!!
Iyanla - THANK YOU! Thank you for your honesty
I loved this book so much I struggled to put it down. I wanted to listen to it every spare moment I had even stayjng awake to choose it over sleep.
My emotions have been tested whilst listening with several chapters in the book bringing out weeping whilst the author takes you through her sorrow, strength and life journey.
I loved the narrator and how she reads finding it soothing.
I would definitely recommend this book and read it again.
I literally could not stop listening. i would go back and listen it again anytime i need a reminder of the wise words shared in this book.
OMG my heart ached and soared in equal measures - thank you thank you thank you
"Life changing and truly inspirational"
This has been an eye opening experience. Truly life changing and definitely requires repetitive listening to grasp all the life lessons shared.
Heart wrenching but excellent story. You won't be able to put it down until you're finished, something in your mindset will be changed.
"An eye opener"
A great but uncomfortable book for me as it heat some home trues. Iyanla welcomed us into her past, and present experiences.
Just when I caught myself criticising some of her delivery; I remembered this book is not fictional; it is her life story.
A really inspirational and comical at times, it did leave me with some questions like:what next? But i guess that is the process of starting my own life journey!
"breaking negative repetitive family problems"
it you are attracted to this book you will find it therapeutic. if you are a fan of the author you'll find it overwhelms. it is a wake up call for men. One is completely in the mind of the author at all times. Though her vision is broad paradoxically it silences the voices of the other people in her life. what did they think?
So Good I could not put it down, the audio book brought this to life for me, I love books but just have no time to read, especially while driving. Hearing the authors voice was a bonus for me. Highly recommended.
