A new original series from Netflix
"Not just a tale of prisons, drugs, crime, or justice; it is, simply put, a beautifully told story about how incredible women can be" (Elizabeth Gilbert, bestselling author of Eat, Pray, Love.)
With her career, live-in boyfriend and loving family, Piper Kerman barely resembles the rebellious young woman who got mixed up with drug runners and delivered a suitcase of drug money to Europe over a decade ago. But when she least expects it, her reckless past catches up with her; convicted and sentenced to fifteen months at an infamous women's prison in Connecticut, Piper becomes inmate #11187-424.
From her first strip search to her final release, she learns to navigate this strange world with its arbitrary rules and codes, its unpredictable, even dangerous relationships. She meets women from all walks of life, who surprise her with tokens of generosity, hard truths and simple acts of acceptance.
Now an original comedy-drama series from Netflix, Piper's story is a fascinating, heartbreaking and often hilarious insight into life on the inside.

"A bighearted book that depicts life in a women's prison with great detail and - crucially - with empathy and respect for Piper Kerman's fellow prisoners." (Dave Eggers, bestselling author of A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius)"A fantastic tale from the Siberia of America's war on drugs and a rippingly fun read right down to the unexpected moment of closure." (Elle magazine USA)
I am a miracle worker. Doing what I can to choose love over fear.
I have wanted to get this since season one started. Finally Europeans can listen to this alongside Audible friends accross the globe.
The fact that the book explains her stay in a very realistic way. The sex focus in season one was way too much. I do not have any knowledge about prison, but even I knew the sex stuff was not realistic and the book confirns this.
11:11:11should have gone faster. I was bored out of my mind until chapter three .
I would made it shorter.
This is a memoir... But, okay. "Yoga-Janet"
Where is she today?
"Orange is the new Black"
Interesting insight in to prison life, all done with a great sense of humour. A woman in prison trying to look on the bright side of things and use humour to get her through her prison stint.
"Excellent but not as good as the TV show"
Good narration, but different from the TV series, would highly recommend before watching. Slightly abrupt ending.
"Better than the tv series."
Better than the tv series & that`s saying something because that`s brilliant. Took a while to put the faces to the different names as some characters have been changed to those on the tele, but gave a different more in depth spin to a great story.
"Enjoyable, funny and thought provoking in parts."
Go into this with an open mind. Get rid of any preconceptions you may have if you've seen the TV show. This in my opinion is nothing like it's glammed up Hollywood counterpart. I found myself trying to relate a lot of the characters back to the characters in the show which is extremely difficult because their names have been changed in the book and changed again for the TV show, however there are quite a few easily identifiable characters.
Once you clear your mind this is in it's own right a thoroughly enjoyable book. The story flows very well and the way it's written helps us feel Pipers pain when she gets convicted, sentenced and the constant battle she faces being thrown outside the confines of her middle class life.
I never found it boring but at parts I did feel disconnected from the story, almost like I'd switched off and it was just playing in the background. The narration by Cassandra Campbell was hands down the best I've heard on Audible so far. She expresses different characters by changing accents which helps make them easily identifiable and also adds depth to the story.
"Makes a good audiobook but reading is stiff"
The reader oveR-eNunCiaTeD like nobody's business, and really hammed up the snottiness of the narrator, which made her less likeable. It's a nice simple narrative that lends itself well to the audiobook format, but I think a better choice of reader would have made a world of difference here.
"Different from the TV series; Good in its own way"
I liked the fact that this was a woman's own account of being in prison and perhaps would give a small insight into what it may be like.
Piper Kerman was my favourite character, probably because this is a 1st person account of someone's experience and you start to identify with them in small bits. I also found that I really liked Red, she was very motherly and was quite interesting.
I have never listened to any of the narrators other books. However I found her voice was a little robotic and she did a lot of the same voices for different characters, which at times was a little confusing. I did get used to her robotic drone and eventually stopped noticing.
This is a very interesting listen. I had watched the first series of the TV series and found the book to be a very different animal altogether. I found that some of the characters in the book had been amalgamated to form characters in the TV series so it took me a while to try and separate the two, once I did though I was glad I had chosen to listen to this book and would recommend to others.
"Really enjoyed it! :)"
If you like the tv series, then you will really enjoy the book. The accents were pretty darn good and I would definitely recommend this to any fan. =D
The story needed to be fleshed out more. At one time I thought I had an abridged version as the storyline just fizzled away.
It was okay
Didn't hate it, but no depth, or was that just the story??
It would be nice to know what happened to the characters
Elevated, Amazing and Eventful
Piper Kerman because she is such a kind, caring and thoughtful genuine individual.
There was many moments in this amazing book which made me feel a lot of different emotions particularly 'He turned and saw me, and then I was running as fast as I could, no one could stop me' I was relived, excited, happy and overjoyed for her freedom.
Definitely worth a listen, the book is versatile and will make you feel a lot of emotions which make you think about a lot of things differently.
To try the audiobook
I don't know the thing is. I like to take the book a read that is a good thing for children's or old people
Thanks so much for the free trial book I appreciate that a lot
