Publisher's summary

In 2001, martial arts-trained biker Glen Heggstad began a journey from California to the tip of South America on his motorcycle and made it as far as Colombia, where he was kidnapped by local rebels and held captive. Undeterred by more than a month of traumatic incarceration, the 'Striking Viking' finished his trip after being released. Three years later he set out into the world on his bike again, this time searching for truth on his own terms in a world that had become strangled by a climate of fear.

Starting his trip in Japan, he traveled through Siberia, Mongolia, Europe, the Middle East, South East Asia, and Africa, stopping in more than 30 countries to deliver his message of the real United States, as he knew it. Unique stories and gritty adventure fill this quest for new sights and insights amongst extreme temperatures, knee-deep mud, bureaucratic roadblocks, health problems, and loneliness.

A 'true' adventurer

I have heard several world motorcycle ride stories. But there ain't any thing like this one. The guy has actually gone to remotes areas, the actual rural areas of uh countries he has visited and understood the true spirit of each them. Hailing from one of the countries he has visited I know that not all that he has written is completely true but achievement so much as he has is PHENOMENAL. And the conclusion is a fantastic ending that comprehensively brings out what he has learnt during his journey. Few places it appeared it was rushed through such as Africa and India and some places a little boring but overall a very good book.

motorcycles, travel, and good company

Glen does a great job of balancing the joys and trials of c
transnational travel, making friends wherever he goes.
My audible copy had a few hiccups and a fatal error at chapter 11. I will try to re-download and try to finish the book.

A must read for someone attempting a distance ride

What made the experience of listening to One More Day Everywhere the most enjoyable?

As someone who has ridden across borders, although not nearly to the same extent, I found his descriptions of the process, and of cycling very accurate.

Would you recommend One More Day Everywhere to your friends? Why or why not?

I would recommend it highly to someone that REALLY is going to do/ has done a long distance ride. It is superb prep for the hassles and paperwork you will experience. I would not necessarily recommend it to someone just looking for a travel book to take you away. There are not many descriptions of the people, culture, and foods. This book is more about the journey as an accomplishment. As a travel narrative it is 2 stars, as a distance motorcycle guide it is 5 stars.

Which scene was your favorite?

There are some good descriptions of his experiences in parts of Africa.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I listen, 2 hours at a time, when riding my bicycle ion the mornings.

Any additional comments?

Mr Heggstad is the real deal when it comes to motorcycle riding. A few of his martial arts analogies make one roll their eyes like that one friend we have that is into martial arts and talks too much about it. That being said he gives a superb and accurate glimpse into what to expect with your bike, what happens at border crossings, and the bureaucracy of it all. He is not a food lover and says as much and there aren't many vivid descriptions of people and the cultures he rides through. Its about a rider conquering and accomplishing a hard task. How to get from point a to point b. It is absolutely a must read for anyone thinking of doing the same.

I’m sure it’s an interesting story…

But it comes off as sanctimonious “wasn’t it awful!?l”. Tell your story, let me decide.

Excellent story and Narration

By far my favorite motorcycle world tour audiobook and probably my favorite audiobook so far (total of 32). I was hesitant to buy at first since it was 15+ hrs long but loved every minute. I would highly recommend this book to anyone!

The author loves him some himself.

Way too much fake flowery language and recreation of conversations of conversations that never happened. This book is purely to let the world know just how high of a regard the author holds himself. Insufferable bore. Check out Ted Simon, Sam Manicom, or Graham Field in that order instead.

Excellent tale of the road on 2 wheels!!

Loved this book!! As a fellow rider who's been reluctantly "removed" from riding for a number of years now (tends to happen when ya start a family, haha!). Glenn's tale of adventure on 2 wheels and helping us see the world thru his eyes and they the eyes of the people he meets was so exciting, made me feel like I was his travels with him! It's also refreshing to see just how kind people can be when you try to see the world thru THEIR eyes and vice versa. This was such fantastic book! Funny how I stumbled across this book just as I'm starting to think that my hyatis from riding is nearing its end, its definitely fanned the flames excitement on 2 wheels for me!!
