Kathy Griffin has won Emmys for her reality show Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List, been nominated for a Grammy, worked and walked every red carpet known to man, and rung in the New Year with Anderson Cooper. But the legions of fans who pack Kathy's sold-out comedy shows have heard only part of her remarkable story. Writing with her trademark wit, the feisty comic settles a few old scores, celebrates the friends and mentors who helped her claw her way to the top, and shares insider gossip about celebrity behavior - the good, the bad, and the very ugly. She recounts the crazy ups and downs of her own career and introduces us to some of the supertalented people she encountered before they got famous (or, in some cases, after fame went to their heads). Word to the wise: If you've ever crossed Kathy Griffin at some point in your life, check the index for your name.
Along the way, Kathy reveals intimate details about her life before and after she made the big time. She opens up about everything from growing up with a dysfunctional family in suburban Illinois to bombing as a young comedian in L.A., from her well-publicized plastic surgery disasters to her highly publicized divorce, and more. Only in this book will you learn how the dinner table is the best training ground for a career in stand-up, how speaking your mind can bite you on the ass and buy you a house, and which people in Kathy's life have taught her the most valuable lessons - both inside and outside the entertainment industry.
Refreshingly candid and full of hilarious "Did she really say that?" moments.

It is one of the best
N/A: no characters, although her impersonations of people are hilarious
The way she made you feel like she was telling the stories to only you, like you were having a private conversation.
It had a lot of funny parts and some touching parts where she tackled hard subjects.
It had everything a celebrity memoir should have: a little background, some funny stories, dishing on what other famous people are -really- like, and personal confessions about serious subjects.
Yes, Kathy has a great story to tell.
Kathy and Andy Dick.
Just as funny as stand up but with some sadness and true reality mixed in.
Yes, I had to force myself to turn off my machine.
I would recommend this book. I love Kathy Griffin and have for a long time, but this book lets you see the other side of her- without being "woe is me." Kathy, as she always has, just tells it like it is. At the same time, many parts of this book will make you giggle.
Kathy! I loved listening to her journey and hearing her speak about her life- the good and the bad.
There were a few- when Kathy mentioned the issue with her older brother. I won't spoil it, but it was one of those "open family secret" kind of issues. You could hear the emotion in her voice when she spoke about her family, and that is hard to replicate when you just have some random narrator reading the book. Kathy lived it, it moved her, and you could tell she wasn't acting.
Also, finally hearing the story about her divorce. That was moving, very sad.
I have always loved Kathy. Now, I love her even more! I wish the book had been longer. Write another, Kathy!
Love this site! I have a very busy job, so listening to audio books enables me to keep up on great stories!
I just love Kathy Griffin. She's very fearless, and one of the funniest people EVER. Obviously any time she talks about her Mother and quotes her, I cannot stop laughing. I also thought the Dakota Fanning story was hilarious!
I was SO sad to hear the details of her marriage falling apart. I felt like a friend of hers and I was saying out loud, "Oh honey" or "You have got to be kidding me." That's the power of her storytelling. She speaks as if you were there with her. Like we were at a Starbucks or something. Just great.
The only problem I have is her decision to share her story about her Brother. That put me in a dark place. I appreciate her raw honesty and fearlessness, but I just didn't want to hear it.
I loved hearing Kathy Griffin tell her life story in this informal and chatty audiobook. After a few chapters, I couldn't put it down (in the figurative sense, of course) and listened to the whole thing while cleaning my house. It was just what I needed!
This was funny. I think I would have liked this book better if I had more previous knowledge of Kathy Griffin. I have seen her on talk shows and have always thought she was funny. I wasn't aware that she has had several TV shows of her own.
one of my faves by a comic
Kathy Griffin was perfectly expressive reading her own book. She didn't seen to need an audience's reaction to bring magic to her words. In fact, she was so personable in tone that I felt I'd just had a nice visit with the author herself. I loved the mix of funny scenarios and serious subject matter. A very satisfying listen.
It was like we were conversing. I can't imagine anyone else reading her memoir. Her voice was full of spunk and charm--and down-to-earth. She shared her perspective and key points of her life in this book. Hearing her voice made it feel even more like I'd been invited into her thoughts.
This audio book ranks among my favorites.
I bought the book in hardcover and while I love Kathy Griffin, I found myself just skimming it. It's so hard for me to sit down and get through a book without 100 interruptions and I felt something was missing. WHAT? Kathy herself telling the story in her own voice and own style. That is EXACTLY what this audio book adds. When you take the printed page and have Kathy read it to you herself, it's as if you are sitting on a couch with her having a chat while she tells you the story of her life. I had a hard time pausing it to do other things and listened to the entire book in two days. She dives into very personal material, shows there is darkness in her past and comes off as a real person. They say most comedians have pain in their past, I have found this to be true and it certainly is with Kathy, not that there are not many fun uplifting stories also.
It simply made me FINALLY enjoy this book I so wanted to get through but couldn't holding it in my hand. If you want to learn more about Kathy Griffin, get the audio book, not the print version... the audio is SO much better.
Great book very light hearted and funny you can always depend on Kathy Griffin to bring a laugh
I loved hearing how she became the gossip thast she is by relaying her parents business to the neighbors and the neighbors business to her family.
As always Kathy herself
Laugh, of course
love it! very easy read
I loved that Kathy read the book herself. It actually filled in a lot of questions about Kathy for me! LOVED IT!!
