Publisher's summary

From Saturday Night Live to stand-up, from a blockbuster film career to the star of CBS’s hit television show Gary Unmarried, Jay Mohr is one of the funniest people in comedy today. Now, in this down and dirty tale of modern fatherhood, Mohr shares his stories as a first-time parent. No Wonder My Parents Drank reveals the details behind Mohr’s humiliating test-tube conception attempts and then recounts the trauma of not only having to keep this child alive, but having to spend time alone with him! He waxes poetic about dirty diapers; spins theories on spanking; and mulls over the more hidden advantages of parenthood, like carpool lane access, carte blanche to use the ladies restroom, and an alibi for missing family dinners.

Mohr describes, in painfully funny detail, the bizarre situations that all parents inevitably face but can never prepare for (such as when his kid discovered his dog’s rear end) as well as moments of pure joy, like taking his son to his first baseball game. Mohr reports on the hilarious wisdom that his son, Jackson, has taught him—like why it’s fun to play "Kissy Boy" with the other boys at recess, how important sunscreen is for avoiding a "sunborn", and how awesome it is to get a "rainbow belt" in karate.

Riotously acerbic and refreshingly honest, No Wonder My Parents Drank casts the very funny Jay Mohr with an even funnier mini-me sidekick as a supporting character in a little comedic love story that every person who either is a parent or has a parent will find delightful.

Without a doubt....a fantastic one!

If you are a parent (even more fittingly a father) you will laugh until you cry. The diaper chapter had me calling all of my friends (who were fathers) and describing how they MUST listen to Jay read his book. It seemed as he was speaking to me as if it were my own story. Every fall I spend hundreds of hours in a tractor during harvest and I listen to it each year. Every year that passes, as my own children grow I can relate to and laugh at more and more of this hilarious authors tales. 1000% GREAT BOOK!

Many laughs...

Even those without children can relate to the stories that Jay Mohr tells us. I laughed much throughout the book. it was like attending a comedy concert live! Not only is the subject humorous, but Jay also shares the lessons that he has learned and that all parents should learn. I love the voice he used when his son was speaking and tha narration was great. If you just want to have fun, listen to this! The second time through the book, I let the kids listen. Some parts are "R" rated, so you should avoid, but the rest of the stories were even fun for my older kids to hear!

Excellent Read

A true story from every angle, I understand both sides of the step parenting conundrum - I’ve been both a stepdaughter and a stepmother ... I especially love that JJ read the book. Excellent! Now that we know Jackson, tell us about reading Meredith 💗

Critical book for any father

I have two children, and I found it very easy to connect with Jay Mohr. His stories were of the sort that most people could relate to. The entertainment value was incredible. At many times, I couldn't stop listening to the story. On top of that, I asked Jay some questions about his book on twitter, and he responded. Buying Jay's book on Audible was undoubtedly worthwhile. I liked the story so much I bought paper copies for friends. Please, if you haven't bought this yet, stop wasting time and buy it already!

glaringly honest and truly beautiful

If you're thinking of having kids, if you have kids and are at your wits end, if you don't have kids and don't understand why others love having kids, read this book. The insanity of Parenthood is beautifully agonizing and Jay illustrates this perfectly.
