Born Rita Rizzo in Canton, Ohio, Mother Angelica was abandoned by her father and raised in poverty by a mother who suffered suicidal depressions. Awakened to the power of prayer, at age 21 Rita vowed to dedicate her life to God and become a cloistered nun. She expected to spend her life hidden from the world. But Rita's faith compelled her to unlikely endeavors, accomplishing what the highest echelon of the Catholic Church could not.
This engrossing biography traces Mother Angelica's tortured rise to success and exposes for the first time the fierce opposition she faced, inside and outside of her church. It is an inspiring story of survival and proof that one woman's faith can move more than mountains.

"In Raymond Arroyo's entertaining Mother Angelica, she emerges as a daring entrepreneur who really did do it all for God." (Wall Street Journal)
"Mother Angelica...may well be the patron saint of CEOs. Buy this book and be inspired." (Lee Iacocca)
"A rattling good story of fear, faith, courage and bulldog tenacity--beautifully told." (George Weigel, author of Witness to Hope: The Biography of Pope John Paul II)
Compelling story of true faith that God shall provide. I especially liked the fact Mother never worked with a budget because it it would limit her donations. Simply amazing how all of Mothers projects like launching two international media entities ( cable station EWTN and radio WEWN) without one dime from the church then go onto to build a 50 million dollar monastery in Alabama of all places!
I admire her tenacity to stand up to US bishops and how she refused to give up her devotion to Jesus in the Eucharist. Honestly Mother Angelica was a modern day disciple of Christ. Hearing her story is truly faith confirming to me as a recent RCIA and Extraordinary Minister student. She exemplifies what it means to evangelize and devote your life to Jesus.
A trip to Alabama is on my bucket list because of her story. Thank you Mother for all you've done to preserve the first church of Christ.
A very spiritual and enlightening book that has opened my eyes and deepened my faith. She is an inspiration to all Catholics and the faithful everywhere. Her love for all people of every walk of life and devotion to her lord and spouse Jesus Christ is truly an example to us all. She truly never doubted Jesus would provide and take care of all she needed to follow the path He had for her.
I became aware of Mother a number of years ago through my mother and mother-in-law. In mid-March took my Mom to EWTN, the Shrine in Hanceville and Casa Maria retreat house as a gift. It was a magnificent trip. Mother died 2 weeks after we returned home to Philly. I needed to learn everything about her. I downloaded this book and loved every single chapter. I, like other reviewers, was initially distracted by the author's ability to speak like Mother. But it is part of what made this listening experience super enjoyable. Raymond Arroyo brings her to life, has a great writing style and exhibits great devotion to this holy woman. Thank you for writing this book, Mr. Arroyo. And, thank you especially for recording it. Fantastic.
Wow! This book totally took me for a ride of surprises & blessings. This is a real story of a real Saint. I am very proud of my brother Raymond for putting in the effort and bring us all this amazing story of this beautiful soul whom God almighty used to reach out to us. God bless you Raymond & your family!
