Publisher's summary

From Karen Gravano, a star of the hit VH1 reality show Mob Wives, comes a revealing memoir of a mafia childhood, where love and family come hand-in-hand with murder and betrayal.

Karen Gravano is the daughter of Sammy “the Bull” Gravano, once one of the mafia's most feared hit men. With 19 confessed murders, the former Gambino Crime Family underboss - and John Gotti’s right-hand man - is the highest ranking gangster ever to turn State’s evidence and testify against members of his high-profile crime family. But to Karen, Sammy Gravano was a sometimes elusive but always loving father figure. He was ever-present at the head of the dinner table. He made a living running a construction firm and several nightclubs. He stayed out late, and sometimes he didn’t come home at all. He hosted “secret” meetings at their house, and had countless whispered conversations with “business associates.” By the age of twelve, Karen knew he was a gangster. And as she grew up, while her peers worried about clothes and schoolwork, she was coming face-to-face with crime and murder. Gravano was 19 years old when her father turned his back on the mob and cooperated with the Feds. The fabric of her family was ripped apart, and they were instantly rejected by the communities they grew up in.This is the story of a daughter’s struggle to reconcile the image of her loving father with that of a murdering Mafioso, and how, in healing the rift between the two, she was able to forge a new life.

Maybe Sammy The Bull was a good bad guy after all.

I would have liked more information on the mafia days and a little less about Gotti.

Loved it, now I have a different perspective of the Gravanos, and know their story.

A great look inside!

I absolutely love getting to know the families POV. I was initially drawn in because I listened to Sammy's audiobook. It is nice to get to know "The Bull" as a father.

Great for the Mob Wives Fan

What made the experience of listening to Mob Daughter the most enjoyable?

I love that Karen Gravano herself was the narrater.

What did you like best about this story?

I enjoyed that she was able to incorporate some of the people from mob wives. Her life story is very interesting. Can't believe she went through all that with her dad.

What aspect of Karen Gravano’s performance would you have changed?

She was somewhat monotone. She needed to have some more animation in her tone.

I really enjoyed listening to this book.

The fact that the narrator lived through each episode makes the book worthwhile, and adds a great amount of credibility.

great story

It was intriguing hearing her side of the mob life. The narration was rough but overall I enjoyed it. I listened to most of it in one day.

What didn’t you like about Karen Gravano’s performance?

Her voice was so monotone...no expressions, no enthusiasm, just blah! It made the boring book even more boring! I couldn't even finish it.

Not very interesting..

Would you try another book from Karen Gravano and Lisa Pulitzer and/or Karen Gravano?

I am a big fan of Mon Wives, I guess that may be the only reason I tried this book. I do like Karin G, I just found her story a little boring. Maybe I expected something more "Soprano" like.

Would you be willing to try another book from Karen Gravano and Lisa Pulitzer ? Why or why not?

Maybe

Could you see Mob Daughter being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Maybe.
Drita-kidding, not sure.

Not all that I was hoping for

This was a story that I was interested in because of her Father’s podcasts. I think the story is worth telling, but perhaps Karen should not have narrated it. It was monotone, unemotional, and lacked the luster/tarnish that the words demanded. I had to force myself to finish this audio book. It was disappointing.
