"It took months of God waking me up in the middle of the night before I realized I was the one He was calling to leave my comfortable American life and move to Haiti." Miracle on Voodoo Mountain is the inspirational memoir of an accomplished and driven 24-year-old who quit her job, sold everything, and moved to Haiti, by herself - all without a clear plan of action. Megan Boudreaux had visited Haiti on a few humanitarian trips but each trip multiplied the sense that someone needed to address the devastation - especially with the children, many of whom were kept as household slaves on the poverty-stricken and earthquake-devastated Caribbean island. God guided her every step as she moved blindly to a foreign land without knowing the language, the people, or the future. From becoming the adoptive mother of former child slaves, to receiving the divine gift of the Haitian Creole language, to starting, building, and running a school for more than 500 children, "the amazingness of what God did after I made the choice to be obedient is incredible," said Megan. Three years later, six acres on Bellevue Mountain in Gressier is the home of the nonprofit Respire Haiti at the former site of voodoo worship, and in the area that many still come to make animal sacrifices, Megan and her staff of nearly 200 are transforming this community as they educate, feed, and address the needs.

Retired CFO, Army wife, Mom of five, Grandma of six, two sons who served in combat, love to read books that reflect my values and faith, love mysteries, historical, military stories, and books that don't waste my time . . . if it doesn't have an ending that was worth the wait, I'm not a happy camper.
Refreshing, honest, and faith-filled, Miracle on Voodoo Mountain, is the story of what happens when we can let ourselves choose to be hear God's voice . . . in a world filled with chatter and well-meaning advice, the quietness of that still small voice, that comes after time in God's word, time spent NOT thinking about ourselves, that voice that whispers into our heart and spirit is our guide to being His hands and feet . . . and as with Megan, God often leads us out of our "safe zones" . . . but wherever He leads us, He is already there, preparing the way . . . He leads us into wisdom, and it is a journey . . . a process . . . which first begins with great compassion, wanting to gather up all the hurt and dying of this world, and then coming to the understanding that, no, that's impossible . . . and that's not what He's called you to anyway . . . He's called you to work, one day at a time, to LOVE, to give, to be JOYOUS . . . and He's also called others to be a part of His plan, to join in His work . . . I listened with so much joy at Megan's story . . . marveled as she and her friends faced down the enemy in prayer . . . and claimed the land . . . and God's children in the name of Jesus . . . Miracle on Voodoo Mountain blessed me . . . it will bless you, too . . .
Great story. Great narrator. The story will resonate with anyone who has been to Haiti - the story brings you right back to the island as you can picture places that you have been that are so similar to her description. The story is so encouraging to hear of the progress at Respire Haiti in such a short time. It is a wonderful example of God's sovereign hand protecting and healing His children.
What a blessing to see God's hand at work in Haiti. A very well-written, well-read book that is chock full of encouragement, hope, and the love of our totally awesome God!
Gave me chills several times. What a story !
Twenty something, white city girl, who doesn't speak the language at all ?!
God certainly has not only a sense of humor, but obviously a plan, and even better - the supernatural means of handling every need.
Don't worry about the language, the money, a place, even your safety, God says come - just do it. (I say come, because He was obviously already there clearing the way, He just needed Megan's faith, and her feet on the ground to walk it out)
This is officially my favorite book ever. It is so inspiring and God shows up over and over again in such miraculous ways. It made me laugh and also brought tears to my eyes. May God bless this young woman for her wonderful ministry and may God be praised!
Amazing story of faith in action, I am inspired by the faith and courage of this young woman and what has been achieved in such a short time
I "read" this story with my ears. Although I love reading the old fashioned way (with my eyes), Whispersync is an amazing tool for reading-while-you work, (driving, cooking, cleaning, etc).
This is a story of a young girl (24 years) who felt God's nudge and stepped out in obedience and faith - and the amazing things God was able to do through her.
Such an encouraging story! It's good for my soul and my faith to hear all that God is doing in Haiti. Our God is so good! His miraculous ways amaze and astound me. Thank you to Megan for sharing her story.
