Publisher's summary

"The first chance I got, I bought my very first bag of crystal methamphetamine... A monster was born. Try as I might, there is simply no way for me to minimize the impact with which crystal meth slammed into my life, at least not without straying far from the truth. It was like throwing a forty-pound sledge hammer though a plate glass window. What a cunning thing this was that lived inside of me. How could I ever hope to win against it? My good intentions meant nothing what I lacked was power."

Meth Monster is the autobiographical story of one gay African American man's personal journey to faith and deliverance from drugs and alcohol, and particularly from the scourge of crystal methamphetamine. The author takes his readers through his troubled early years in Indiana, hustling on the streets of Hollywood, and dealing drugs in the Tenderloin district of San Francisco. Blaine boldly examines his personal demons from the time they take up residence in his subconscious and through their horrific and destructive manifestations. After numerous visits to jails, prisons and rehab, and after finally confronting his addiction, his sexuality, AIDS and a broken spirit, at last he finds redemption, healing and forgiveness through the grace and mercy of The Living God.

An Amazing Story

Audio books had never been my thing until I had my son. Now I am stuck in a position where reading is impossible. This book was a god send. Not only was the narration amazing (and in no way monotone) but soothing to my son which allowed me to become easily immersed in the story. Up until Chapter 9 I felt like I was there - watching the story unfold before me. While I found the last Chapter a little dry, I should still feel the warmth of true compassion of the reader coming through the narrators voice.

And as a former addict and alcoholic, it seems like a story all to familiar to me. While the people and places may be differant, a lot of the story holds similarities to my story.

Well worth the time to listen to!!!

Resurrected Life *Copy Read in Exchange For Review

Is there anything you would change about this book?

This book was not at all what I expected. It was about the life of Timothy Blaine and it did include the down and gory details that one would expect from an autobiography with this title. The theme of consistent and continual presence of how God brought him from beginning to end was ever present throughout the book. In his first paragraph Blaine states that this is his testimony so I should have not been surprised.

Books like these usually tell all the gory details and then spend a minute or two on redemption at the very end of the book. This difference, to me, was profound and it made me think about things-mainly, my preconceived ideas. However, listening to the way it is written I forgot about some of the very strong opinions and just felt what the author wrote. A testimony from a unique perspective.

I really, really liked and appreciated Jay Prichard's narration. He made me feel what he was reading, even though this topic is almost completely foreign to me. I did speed it up a little bit, to 1.25 X because I prefer to 'listen bit faster.' Prichard's performance/voice is very soothing. He is a good storyteller and a real professional. Keeping me engaged in a topic I wouldn't normally listen to.

Note: There is NOTHING graphic, but there are descriptions of drug and alcohol use, prostitution & gay lifestyle

Credit worthy/$: *I was asked to listen to this book in exchange for my review.* This is not a topic I would pick out on my own, but I feel I am a better person for reading it. It is pretty powerful. It is a short book just over 3 1/2 hours so I would not use a credit for it and the price tag is a little bit high for such a short book, in my opinion.

CONSTANT reference to Bible scripture and the Lord Jesus Christ. Should be more accurately advertised as Christian recruitment

Selected this book in hopes of helping me as a newly recovering meth addict. In the sample recording provided, it checked every box of the type book I was looking for. However, the preface quickly snowballed into a sermon from a seemingly over eager, newly ordained minister. Just a story about a guy who thinks his life needed to be told to so its sinful readers could come to know the glory of his Lord Jesus Christ. Don’t waste your money if you are a non religious recovering drug addict looking for inspiration on getting and staying clean. Readers already basking in their Lord’s glory may find this sinner-to-saved story readable. On second thought, save your money as well since you most likely already own a Bible.

Good Story

Great story for anyone going through this struggle. It’s basically a story of a man’s journey in and eventually out of crystal meth. There’s a few triggering moments (author warns you) that really describe the hold this drug has on people.

outstanding and real

relatable and helps readers understand that stories like this can happen to anyone. life depends on choices, but our choices do not make us who we are; we have the opportunity to change and happiness is possible if work, dedication and a change of mindset is pursued. uplifting and gives hope where there is lack thereof.
