Publisher's summary

There have been many Marines. There have been many marksmen. But there has been only one Sergeant Carlos Hathcock, a legend of Marine lore. He stalked the Viet Cong behind enemy lines. His record has never been matched: 93 confirmed kills. This is his story. Powerful, chilling, and all true.

The best sniper and awesome American!

Although I did not serve in the Marine Corps, as a Vietnam era Army medic I have nothing but respect for Carlos N. Hathcock. He embodied the ethics of a true serving soldier, er Marine. While it can be argued that he was the best and I agree, his real credit comes from his attitude towards duty and commitment to his mission. Whether as a sniper or a medic, you are required to be willing to do your job regardless of danger. If it ended there that wouldn't be special, where Gunny Hathcock excelled was in his complete focus and dedication to his duty.

I believe all serving members of the military would benefit from this book. It will help put into perspective the significance of a highly skilled and motivated individual can accomplish.

Great book! But Chapters don't match

The book and Story is outstanding and a must read! But the chapters on Audible did not match the actual book. Between chapters 6 & 7 it cut out a chunk...

Outstanding Story of an American Hero

If you could sum up Marine Sniper in three words, what would they be?

Exciting, heroic, honorable

Who was your favorite character and why?

Obviously Carlos, who was a caring, kind professional with an uncanny ability to do a job that may be distasteful to many, but is essential to protect our people in harmsway.

Which scene was your favorite?

There are at least four scenes where Carlos stalks the enemy with amazing courage and skill. He did these acts with total concern for his fellow Marines.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely. I don't have that kind of time.

Any additional comments?

I've listened to many military books, but this was clearly my favorite. His skill and caring was told in such an articulate and exciting way. If you like this genre this will be an exciting adventure with the most incredible American sniper ever. Even Chris Kyle paid him tribute.

Great Story About a Great Warrior

I first read this book when I was a young Soldier serving on the DMZ between North and South Korea. Carlos Hathcock became someone I looked up to and modeled my career after. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn about absolute courage in the face of adversity.

Truly legendary American hero

For those who enjoy military history the tales of Gunnery Sergeant Hathcock’s missions are probably a familiar one but this book brings to life the man behind the scope and is told in a manner that keeps those both familiar and unfamiliar with “Long Trang” wanting to hear more. The term hero and legend are used rather flippantly these days but there’s no denying that Gunnery Sergeant Hathcock is just that and is well deserving of those titles.

Great great story but…

I’ve read the book twice and just finished the audiobook. I have to say I was disappointed because it was read more like a childrens book than a story of a marine in combat. The reader made Carlos Hathcock have a stereotypical backwoods high pitched voice. When in realCarlos had a deep voice. Like a man’s voice. This was very disappointing and I almost returned it thinking I had accidentally purchased the wrong audiobook about him.

Voices need work

I like the narrator and HIS voice. But anyone that’s ever listened to interviews with Carlos will feel like the narrator did not do him any justice by sounding like a pre-pubescent teenager. That’s my only hang up with this whole audio book. He makes Marines sound like 14 year olds
