Though he was orphaned at age 14, repeatedly struck with debilitating illnesses, and unfairly expelled from college, Brainerd allowed nothing to deter him from serving God wholeheartedly.

He traveled thousands of miles by horseback across treacherous terrain to preach the gospel to remote Indians. Their benefit ultimately brought about his early death at the age of 29. This book not only offers a captivating story, but an uplifting buoy for those who are weary, distant, or discouraged.

One can’t listen to the telling of Brainerd’s life without being humbled by our own insufficiency in our walk with the Lord. As well as inspired to seek first His righteousness. Glorious!

An inspired life!

I have the book and when the recording is compared to it, there are very slight changes, all for the purpose of making some archaic language understandable.
Brilliantly done so that the 17th century flavor is kept.

Kept True w/sensible changes

Highly recommended.

If you have heard the call of God and not known how to respond you will be moved by the example here laid. Dry in form. Satiating, even to revival of spirit. This work continues to inspire. To teach. To set the standard of right posture of heart before God.

Here one meets a man who struggles to understand his own faith. Who, once finds his faith, ventures to the native Americans to share with them the good news of God’s salvation and His life giving ways. Recorded as his own diary with little commentary, by one Johnathan Edwards who him self was regarded as among the most intelligent Americans to live and also a true Christian, one finds raw emotion, internal struggle of heart and spirit and all that resonates with ones own heart if he dare to look there and also to it’s Maker. Be not afraid but look herein.

Have you heard the call?
