Publisher's summary

Audie Award Finalist, Humor, 2014

From the unique perspective of David Sedaris comes a new collection of essays taking his listeners on a bizarre and stimulating world tour. From the perils of French dentistry to the eating habits of the Australian kookaburra, from the squat-style toilets of Beijing to the particular wilderness of a North Carolina Costco, we learn about the absurdity and delight of a curious traveler's experiences. Whether railing against the habits of litterers in the English countryside or marveling over a disembodied human arm in a taxidermist's shop, Sedaris takes us on side-splitting adventures that are not to be forgotten.

Love David Sedaris!

What did you love best about Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls?

Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls is typical David Sedaris - which I think is great. I think the short, distinct stories make it easy to start and stop. That being said, I listened to it on a solo car ride, and I felt like the changing themes kept me engaged.

Have you listened to any of David Sedaris’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have heard some of David Sedaris's other performances. This is just as good as the others.

Medium

I am a big David Sedaris fan, but this wasn't my favorite book of his. There were a few laugh out loud moments, just not as many as usual. I still think it is worth a listen.

Great Stories. Disappointed to Buy Repeats.

Any additional comments?

I love David Sedaris' work. I was disappointed to discover there were repeats in the book, stories from his other books - books that I've already purchased.

Brilliant Sedaris getting grumpier

What did you like best about Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls? What did you like least?

I liked the stories about his family. I did not like the diatribe about travelling in China or getting enraged at customers ordering coffee. Just not funny.

If you’ve listened to books by David Sedaris before, how does this one compare?

This was my first audiobook by Sedaris.

Which character – as performed by David Sedaris – was your favorite?

The french dentist who coins the phrase "good time teeth."

Could you see Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

The author and his sister.

Any additional comments?

I've read everything by Sedaris... this was pretty good but there were a few stories felt like filler.

I laughed out loud and got weird looks in public

Excellent as always. I especially enjoyed the stories at the end for high school students competing in the debate/speech competitions. I was a hilarious idea and nice to read some fiction but still in his signature style of dark witty humor.

He's still got it

Ah, he's still got it. I can't count the number of times I laughed out loud with my headphones on walking down the street. Audio is the way to go, his timing is perfect when reading his work.

Funniest pieces to me were "Obama!!!", "Standing By" and "#2 to Go". And I really liked "Rubbish" because I love the idea of his cleaning up litter simply because it needs to be done.

Was sad for this one to end.

So good

One of my faves. The audiobook also has amazing transition music. This may be the audiobook I most revisit.
