"I had no idea who has just hit us, and my mind didn't think to consider if they were all right or not, or what circumstances might have caused them to cross the median and strike us. I simply looked at the car in silence. Then I heard a voice that was not my own in my mind as clearly as if it had come from someone seated next to me. It was straightforward and filled with power, and the voice said, 'Let it go!'"
On a cold February night in 2007, a devoted father of four and a seventeen-year-old drunk driver both received life sentences. In one violent, devastating instant, both faced a drastically different - and uncertain - future. But as Chris Williams sat in his demolished vehicle, staring at the car that had just caused the death of his wife, his unborn baby, his nine-year-old daughter, and his eleven-year-old son, he committed to do something extraordinary: he would forgive.
That decision launched Chris on a journey toward healing that affected his family and friends, the young man who caused the accident, and an entire community - a community that would face another deadly tragedy just a few days later. Chris's message of forgiveness is an empowering invitation to all who have suffered, however unjustly, to lay down their burdens and let it go.

"A beautiful story of pain, loss, and triumph from the heart of a remarkable, faithful man. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to heal their soul and mend the unmendable." (Dr. Stephen R. Covey, #1 best-selling author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People)
"One of the most powerful true stories of forgiveness, redemption, and love that I have ever read!" (Paul Cardall, Billboard-charting recording artist and producer)
A friend recommended this book and I am so glad that I listened. He tells the story with honesty and also the raw pain that anyone would feel. My heart was just torn apart by the pain that he suffered yet he chose to forgive and thus lose that additional hatred that could have ruined him. Most of us would have both the grief and the hatred that would eat at our souls. I hope that I can remember the lessons that were taught in this book. Thank you Mr. Williams!
Tired teacher. That is, REtired teacher.
A heart breaking yet very uplifting book, it is the story of a horrendous automobile accident that took the lives of Williams' wife, daughter, son and unborn baby. Chris knew from the moment he realized that so many of his family were dead that he had to forgive the intoxicated teenager for what he did. Although that sounds simplistic, cut and dried, it was hardly that easy. It was a long, hard road back to some kind of normalcy for Chris and his two surviving sons. It is a story of the road to forgiveness and triumph over the baser human instincts in search of the sublime. Chris gives us a model to follow when troubles, many times so much less severe than what he endured, beset each of us.
I loved how he told of his feelings and described the incident and the steps it took to achieve healing. I too am struggling to "Let It Go". This book was recommended to me by a family member and I would recommend it to everyone. I didn't realize for a long time how much my peace and happiness depends on repentance and forgiveness. personal experiences are the best way of teaching and learning. I am not big on reading books, so this book definitely is exceptional to have kept me "reading" it to completion. (first book I have listened to on audible.) Very good. Let it help you. <3
I enjoyed every minute of this book. I appreciate the author sharing his journey & his story put my own issues in perspective. Thanks to the Williams family! The narrator did a great job reading this story.
Since I first heard of Chris Williams' story, I was fascinated by his ability to forgive. I was excited that I was able to listen to him read his own words and hear from his own mouth how he was able to do what most would think is unimaginable. His sweet and simple testimony conquered a most complicated situation. I will be giving this book as a gift as my favorite thing I came across this year.
I'm a husband, father, teacher, and I love books that build faith in Christ and confidence in mankind.
Powerfully emphasizes the far-reaching powers of the Atonement. If Chris can let this go, I can surely let the little insignificant things go that I worry and grudge about. Very inspiring.
