Publisher's summary

David Rosenfelt's loyal followers of the Andy Carpenter series are familiar with Tara, the Golden Retriever sidekick. Many also got to know Tara from Dogtripping, David's tales about becoming a slightly nutty dog rescuer and the dog that started it all. Here, finally, is a book all about the inspirational canine who taught David everything he knows. Well, he did know how to tie his shoes before he met and came to love Tara, but that's about it. Through Tara, David learned about dating, about being able to share his emotions, and also about everyday stuff like who gets to use the pillow if several dogs are sleeping in your bed (clue: It's not the human) and why random barking will never be something that can be eliminated. Lessons from Tara is infused with David's trademark wry and self-deprecating sense of humor, and will move listeners to tears and laughter.

Can I give this 20 stars out of 5?

I was feeling tired and worn out so started to listen to this to put a smile on my face. This book did so much more than that. My heart feels lighter and David's humor has made my week. I'm going to keep this on my iPhone to listen to whenever I need a smile. 10 stars out of 5! Thank you again David for all the hundreds of laughs you've brought to my life and to leading me to adopt Maddi, the best rescue dog ever.

It is a Rosenfelt!

Well if you like this author than nothing in the world can deter you from downloading this book.
But, for someone who is visiting the world of Rosenfelt..I invite you to download this book which will keep you smiling and loving the dogs. Really not much in terms of lessons from Tara..there are no lessons you can put to use on your pets or in your life. This is not a self improvement, pet improvement, behavior loving, PETA selling book...this is just a dog loving guy with an insane sense of humor....writing and rambling in a way that keeps the smile on your face and loving all dogs on this planet!

I Applaud the Author's Commitment! But...

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

What a great cause!!! I can wholeheartedly applaud the author's commitment to taking care of these dogs. He's a wonderful human being. The caveat was in the book itself, in the style of its writing.

Personally it didn't do it for me. The endless self deprecating attempt at humor was endless. Like a well seasoned meal, this story felt like someone dumped in way too much salt and pepper. It was over the top and distracting. I couldn't get through it.

My kind of person!

This is the story of a wonderful man and his awesome wife and their beyond amazing devotion to caring for homeless dogs.
I wish I lived near this couple. My husband and I wish we could do what they have done.

just the advice from Tara please

David and his wife were wonderful people who have done wonderful work for animals and I'm so appreciative of that. if we'd stuck to the few vignettes in the book that were actually advice from Tara it might have been okay oh, but I got a little tired of all the different stories that were essentially variations on the same theme.

I LOVED THIS BOOK

Why? Well … because my life is also overrun by dogs, LOL. The stories about furniture, sleeping arrangements, vet trips, dog relations, the amusement of family and friends, the acceptance as "normal" that any of your non dog owning friends just don't understand, the difficulties in going anywhere and traveling .. always with at least one dog. I loved Dog Tripping and this book as well. I've always enjoyed the Andy Carpenter series, but until Dog Tripping, I had no clue that David and his wife were dog rescuers, extraordinaire! It is sad and it is rewarding at the same time … the dogs give us so much more than most humans during their short lives … and when you lose one, no matter the age, it is never long enough! Kudos, Mr. Rosenberg! Keep writing! And, enjoy your messy, noisy, dog "beat" house, as I do mine!

I loved every minute of it.

It was such a delight to read about Mr. Rosenfeld in his own words. The book had some great messages, but Mr. Rosenfelt's self-deprecating humor, so evident in the Andy Carpenter books kept it from getting too preachy. Reading every one of Mr. Rosenfelt's books is definitely on my bucket list.

Great dog rescue stories

If you're a dog person or a David Rosenfelt fan, you'll like this book. Jeff Steitzer does an excellent job as narrator. Rosenfelt's self-deprecating humor is evident in relating the stories of some of the dogs they have rescued. If you've never read any other Rosenfelt book, this one is easily read as a stand-alone. If you've ever wondered what it is like to live with more than twenty dogs, here's your book.
