Made me cry

If you could sum up Journey to Ixtlan in three words, what would they be?

closure.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Don Genaro.
His teaching style is so different to that of Don Juan. He plays a much more important role in this book.

Which scene was your favorite?

The perceptions of reality without the use of psychotropic plants. (the lost car in particular)
Close second is the details of the feud with Catalina.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes. Don Genaro's story at the end made me cry. The insight he gives into the life of a 'Man of Knowledge' was something Don Juan never touched on.

Philosophy In The Desert

What did you love best about Journey to Ixtlan?

One of the best in the Don Juan/Carlos Castaneda series, in my opinion. Castaneda reviews the non-hallucinogenic plant events during his meetings with Don Juan in various Mexican locations. Don Juan lays out many advanced philosophical concepts and techniques relating to paths followed by seekers of enlightenment. Prepare to have your world views destroyed and expanded.

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed the reader's characterizations of Carlos and Don Juan. Carlos as an inquisitive student and Don Juan as a commanding mentor. His style is entertaining, without over doing anything. I truly hope that he will produce an audiobook of the fourth Castaneda book in the series, "Tales of Power."

Fantastic

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Only if they were in tune with the ideas of Don Juan.

What other book might you compare Journey to Ixtlan to and why?

The ones that come before.

Have you listened to any of Luis Moreno’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, on so many levels.

Any additional comments?

I continue to hope that Luis Moreno will complete the series of books related to Don Juan and Carlos Castaneda.

More needed.

Audio books is missing a cash cow by leaving the rest of series to kindle, if the two companies are not one and same. I would prefer the Audible versions to, as I plan, revisit the entire series. They are culturally, historically, and philosophically significant and beautiful in just the reading/listening experience.

Another of Castaneda's intriguing works

A story of his sorcerer teacher, don Juan Matus, and his instructions to Castaneda on his journey to power. Exceptionally narrated with voice changes and tones. Great story, great author and narrator.

I read this book quite a while ago; in my teens actually. Currently I have this book in written form. Thinking it might be convenient to listen to the book this time I purchased it from Audible. I feel it my duty to warn others that the narrator is one of the worst I have ever heard. He puts the wrong emphasis on the wrong syllables. His reading is slow and staccato. He almost calls out words rather than reading them. He seems to have no concept of how to read in a flowing manner. He expresses strong emotion in places it is not called for etc. etc. To sum up the narration is so bad that it is very hard get understand the book.

Journey to Ixtan an awakening.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would have to reccomend this book on the premis that it exposes the illusion of our reality.

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

The most compelling aspect I would have to say is the adventures Don Juan takes our hero on.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

The narrator was adequate enough to get the story told.

Please hire Luis to read all of Castaneda's books!

Where does Journey to Ixtlan rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Since '91 Castaneda has been my favorite author and Journey to Ixtlan my favorite book. So it goes without saying that I rank this as my all time favorite book - in any format.A close second would be The Power of Silence - wherein we finally find out how don Juan came to be a Man of Knowledge.

What did you like best about this story?

Man what a question. Where to begin? How about I just say that it has everything. Adventure. Humor. Suspense. Poignant Nostalgia - when we learn why Genaro can never return to Ixtlan. Above all it has a ring of authenticity few books that purport to impart wisdom have.

If you could only read two books that would point the way to a joyous life it would be this one and Eckart Tolle's A New Earth. Both are masterpieces in their own way. Tolle's book, it must be said, is more direct but I LOVE Castaneda's narrative story telling style of writing.

What about Luis Moreno’s performance did you like?

Luis does a great job of reading this story. His voice is perhaps a bit sharper than I'd like but that's picking nits. I'm sure I'm not alone in wishing that, if the rest of Castaneda's books are put here on Audible, Luis does the reading. You are going to do all of the books right? Right?

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The end part that recounts Genaro's encounter with an ally and how the world was different, but the same, afterward.

Any additional comments?

It bears repeating...PLEASE HIRE LUIS TO READ ALL OF CC's BOOKS.
