From 1783, when German immigrant John Jacob Astor first arrived in the United States, until 2009, when Brooke Astor’s son, Anthony Marshall, was convicted of defrauding his elderly mother, the Astor name occupied a unique place in American society. The family fortune, first made by a beaver trapping business that grew into an empire, was then amplified by holdings in Manhattan real estate. Over the ensuing generations, Astors ruled Gilded Age New York society and inserted themselves into political and cultural life, but also suffered the most famous loss on the Titanic.

What does it mean to be a Kennedy? If ever three women would be challenged and changed by marriage into a family, it would be Jacqueline Bouvier, Ethel Skakel, and Joan Bennett. None of these radiant brides could have ever been prepared for the fame, the family, and tragedies that would spring from their lives. As they struggled to cope with their husbands' infidelities, the harsh glare of the media, and the assassinations of John and Robert Kennedy, these women would learn what it meant to be sisters, reaching out to one another with comfort and consolation.

Story
Best-selling author Bryan Burrough recently made a shocking discovery: The small town of Temple, Texas, where he had grown up, had harbored a dark secret. One of his high school classmates, Danny Corwin, was a vicious serial killer. In this chilling tale, Burrough raises important questions of whether serial killers can be recognized before they kill or rehabilitated after they do. It is also a story of Texas politics and power that led the good citizens of the town of Temple to enable a demon who was their worst nightmare.

Experience a bold take on this classic autobiography as it’s performed by Oscar-nominated Laurence Fishburne. In this searing classic autobiography, originally published in 1965, Malcolm X, the Muslim leader, firebrand, and Black empowerment activist, tells the extraordinary story of his life and the growth of the Human Rights movement. His fascinating perspective on the lies and limitations of the American dream and the inherent racism in a society that denies its non-White citizens the opportunity to dream, gives extraordinary insight into the most urgent issues of our own time.

Truth? FACTS? I’d take the fifth.
I’d take much of this with a grain of salt. So some of what was written I know is inaccurate as it’s direct opposite has been published more than once. One should not write with such “authority” on a subject of which she has no definite insight.

Piercing portrayal of an icon
I enjoyed this audible very much. I come away with a new understanding of Jacqueline Kennedy who now occurs as a troubled soul, lost, selfish, insecure and caught inside the mind and body of an 18th-century French woman. Her qualities are not to be admired.
I thought Kitty Kelly did a wonderful job of pulling back the curtain on perhaps this country is most misunderstood woman.

very average 😴
did not fulfill my curiosity regarding Jackie O at all. now I know she 🚬and hated a bunch of people...yawn. it was so pedestrian that Onassis himself seemed like the hero of the book. the Maria Callas parts were divine but she was divine herself at any way you look at it. five stars for Maria Callas three stars for Jackie O
