A deeply personal, deeply hilarious memoir from one of America's most beloved Saturday Night Live comedians.
With his goofy smile, sleepy eyes, and stoner's laugh, Jim Breuer might not appear to be the most introspective comedian out there. The fact that he made his mark playing Goat Boy on Saturday Night Live and a recalcitrant toker in the stoner classic Half Baked doesn't help his reputation at all. But in I'm Not High, we meet a whole new Jim Breuer: the Jim who tours the country with his whole family in tow; the Jim who cares for his ailing 85-year-old father; the Jim who considers himself a deeply spiritual person.
I'm Not High reveals the complex man behind the simpleminded persona, bringing to life true stories from a career that has spanned two riotous (yet somehow semi-righteous) decades.
Jim dishes on everything from the SNL years to his early adventures in film. The cast of characters in I'm Not High includes Chris Farley, Dave Chapelle, and Tracy Morgan - who all taught Jim lasting lessons about the high-stakes game of fame. He also chronicles the constant role his family has played in keeping him honest. Whether he's arguing with his wife about religion (Is it okay to believe in God but not believe in church?), trying to take care of his kids, or helping his father get through the day with his dignity intact, it's clear that some of his best material comes from his best moments as a son and a dad and a husband.

This is an incredible audio book because it is read by Jim himself. In fact, I am sure he is just shooting from the hip many times which serves to enhance the storytelling. Jim's impressions are on the ball and hysterical. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Lots of great stories from his personal life, and of course some SNL stuff (The Chris Farley story, and the Chris Kattan story stand out). This is how an audio book should be like. 5 out of 5 stars. Thanks for a great read Jim!
First and formost I LOVED how this book was presented. I honestly don't know how anyone would want to buy a paperback version of this book when Jim Breuer himself is "Narrating". Now, I listened to Jay Mohrs book "Gasping for Airtime" and while I enjoyed the book for all of it's content and humor, it sounded very much like he was READING the book and he would inject his impresions when called for. In this case Jim is MAYBE using the book as a guideline and he is very enthusiastically and with genuine emotion telling you these stories strait from the heart. I did get a little tired of hearing the words MONSTER and CRUSHED, but I really liked hearing the story of his family, where he grew up and the journey he took to become a comedian. When I bought this book I had about 20 books in my ipod that I have yet to listen to and this one jumped to the front of the line and I blew through it over a 2 day period. I have 6 young kids so my time is limited, I lost sleep just to listen to this one cause I didn't want to turn it off. Nice job Jimmy B.
The fact that Jim Breuer narrated the story, and told stories as he narrated the book.
Everything. He would just make me laugh continually.
He does such a good job, is so energetic, honest and his impressions are amazing.
Not really. It was nice to break it up over different sessions.
Even if you are not a Jim Breuer fan, you will be entertained from start to finish. The audiobook was incredible. I don't know if any other book will come close to making me laugh like this.
If you want this book because you want a comedy book written a hilarious guy then this is not for you. The book is a great book. Jim is one of the best story tellers. Probably the best next to Artie Lange. The stories are, for the most part, feel good stories that I think anybody can relate to. They might not have you rolling around on the ground laughing but they're definitely worth hearing. Great book, Jim!
I like scifi and urban fantasy. I don't like romance novels. If you are the same my reviews should help.
First, lets be clear this is an actual book and not just a recording of a series of stand up routines. Although, to be fair, a lot of the material in this book was in his last special. He is very open an honest about his life and beliefs and did not attempt to glamorize himsellf. He covered it warts and all.
His delivery was great. I don't think I would have liked this one in print or if another person had read it. It really only works because Jim's delivery. This gives a fun and honest view of major events in his life. If you are just wanting a comedy routine this isn't what you are looking for but if you want a real look at the guys life this is a good pick.
Yes. Jim makes you feel like you are just hanging out with him on a drive.
The voice work that he does.
His Dad on the Plane
It made me laugh. It was a great story, and I look forward to a future book.
It was great to learn more about Jim and his family.
Bus driver, father, and ......yeah that's about it.
Jim's ability to tell stories has always been my favorite thing about him. This book thrived with his impressions and unique way of describing things.
Joe Pesci baby!
His raw honesty and how he was able to fearlessly show his spirituality.
Both, he really pulled you in deep.
Buy this audiobook, reading it wouldn't compare.
I like Jim, he is very funny. I got to see his stand up act at the local comedy club. His stories and routine were too funny! The book is pretty good to. At some points in the book iwas laughing so hard i was crying. His stories are very relateable. However, I'm not Christian nor religious in any way and he seems to base alot of the unknown or unusual events in his life on his religious beliefs. to me that a bit annoying, but if you are Christian you would definately see this as spiritual. I think this is a good book for any faith but if you are Christian and want a funny book you absolutely must read this one.

I think Breuer is annoying and I really had no interest in listening to this book. I didn't like all the God stuff in it either. But with that said, this book was really funny and his stories on Dave Chapelle, DeNiro and Pesci were hilarious. To his credit, he does excellent impersonations and his ability to change is voice to do certain characters really is impressive. He also did a great job narrating as well!
Former SNL cast member, Jim Breuer is a brilliant storyteller. He clearly is not reading this book which adds a great deal to his stories. When I wasn't laughing at his humor, I was stunned by some of the events / coincidences in his life. His story is great fun to listen to.
