It-girl Betty White delivers a hilarious, slyly profound take on love, life, celebrity, and everything in between.
Drawing from a lifetime of lessons learned, seven-time Emmy winner Betty White's wit and wisdom take center stage as she tackles topics like friendship, romantic love, aging, television, fans, love for animals, and the brave new world of celebrity. If You Ask Me mixes her thoughtful observations with humorous stories from a seven- decade career in Hollywood. Longtime fans and new fans alike will relish Betty's candid take on everything from her rumored crush on Robert Redford (true) to her beauty regimen ("I have no idea what color my hair is and I never intend to find out") to the Facebook campaign that helped persuade her to host Saturday Night Live despite her having declined the hosting job three times already.
Featuring all-new material, with a focus on the past 15 years of her life, If You Ask Me is funny, sweet, and to the point - just like Betty White.

Betty White is funny, beautiful and timeless. This is a good book, it's just that she has other, funnier books. That's what you get for living so long, we should all be so lucky.
Betty's story is refreshingly real and naturally funny. I love listening to her and find myself going back and relistening when I need a little lighthearted humor to lift my day. She's a peach.
Nurse working at being a nurse practitioner. The only way I have time to read for pleasure is audio books while I drive to work. I have always liked audio books.
I felt I was talking to Betty in my living room or hers. She is vivacious and an inspiration.
I loved the narration
Growing better Betty
this was a wonderful book to listen to on a long trip. Great to hear her stories in Betty's voice and laughter!
I'm a corporate training consultant and adjunct professor who loves to read! I'm always looking for the next big thing.
This book is so great! It's funny and touching at the same time. Betty White can still entertain after all these years. I hope she continues to write many more books in the future to make me laugh as much as this one has. Plus, she's super as the narrator! She knows how to deliver a line, and it makes the book that much better. Excellent read!
Love Betty White!
Since it's mostly a selection of short essays that are rather autobiographical, I would say it's similar to "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me (And Other Concerns)" by Mindy Kaling, and also to "Bossy Pants" by Tina Fey.
I'm not very emotional, so no. But it was very cute when she'd mention her late husband Allen Ludden.
I first recall Betty White as Suzanne Niven in the "Mary Tyler Moore" show. Countless interviews and appearances later It is no wonder to me why Betty White is the beloved icon she is.
What I enjoyed most about "If you ask me" was that Betty narrated it herself and no one could have done a better job. In her own words and voice you get the opportunity to learn of this extraordinary woman and her life. The depth of her love and relationship with her late Husband Alan, her dedication to and love for animals, and the relationships with her many co-stars.
The only thing exposed here is Betty's care for others, her conscious remaking of her image into what she is today, and her love and respect for those she has spent so many years working with.
It is only about a 5 hour listen - so my husband and I finished it in 2 round trips to the big city!
It is not a story or an autobiography - but rather each chapter is about a specific topic, like Pets. And the chapters are short, funny and contain personal annecdotes.
I enjoyed it.
It often made me laugh!
Short little book ... really no depth to the content, it's really more of Betty's recollections and thoughts and wisdom... but an enjoyable listen because there is no one like Betty White.
I really like Betty White. Her honesty and integrity are refreshing in a world where those things can be hard to find. She and I are also kindred spirits where animals are concerned. Those stories were the best part of this book for me, as I could totally relate to them. But there weren't many of those, and I found the book to be overall lacking in depth. I enjoyed listening to Betty read it, but I was a little disappointed. Still like & admire the author, though!
