Publisher's summary

Everyone thinks they know the real Gordon Ramsay: rude, loud, pathologically driven, stubborn as hell. But this is his real story…

This is Gordon Ramsay’s autobiography – the first time he has told the full story of how he became the world’s most famous and infamous chef: his difficult childhood, his brother’s heroin addiction and his failed first career as a footballer: all of these things have made him the celebrated culinary talent and media powerhouse that he is today. Gordon talks frankly about:

  • his tough childhood: his father’s alcoholism and violence and the effects on his relationships with his mother and siblings
  • his first career as a footballer: how the whole family moved to Scotland when he was signed by Glasgow Rangers at the age of fifteen, and how he coped when his career was over due to injury just three years later
  • his brother’s heroin addiction.
  • Gordon’s early career: learning his trade in Paris and London; how his career developed from there: his time in Paris under Albert Roux and his seven Michelin-starred restaurants.
  • kitchen life: Gordon spills the beans about life behind the kitchen door, and how a restaurant kitchen is run in Anthony Bourdain-style.
  • and how he copes with the impact of fame on himself and his family: his television career, the rapacious tabloids, and his own drive for success.

Humble Ramsay

A candid look into the early years of Gordon Ramsay. This was a great listen narrated by the author. Fingers are crossed for an Unabridged version.

I wanted more

This book was incredible! Chef Ramsey read it perfectly. I never thought that chef was a bad and mean guy. I knew he was tough and this book was just a great way to prove that he is great. I wish I could meet him I have so much respect for him. This is a must read or listen.

Wished It Was Longer....

This was a remarkable listen. I loved Chef Ramsay telling his story himself, the way only he can. I felt every emotion as if I were experiencing it with him. It was raw and honest and I absolutely loved it!
Great read! I only wished it were longer 😀

eye opening

you definitely took a different route than some of the other books have read about people / listen to. I know it wasn't that big of an asshole a lot of that was for the cameras but a chef has to be a hard-ass otherwise he gets walked on. Good for you chef

The Real Gordon Ramsey

If you have ever judge a person because of what you see, then choose to judge on what you hear. This book is really great because the camera is set aside and the real Gordon Ramsey and whom he is, is what is shown.

VERY, VERY Good!

Not only for aspiring chefs to read or listen to, but also for anyone to hear of Harding working person’s auto-biography. Chef Ramsay has been through so much personally, yet pushes himself professionally everyday to get better and be better, but in a humble, honest way. It was a great book to listen to rather than just reading it.

Love Gordon Ramsay!

I am a fan of all things Ramsay, so when I saw this book I had to get it. I was not disappointed. He tells his brave story of how he became the man he is today. The best part is when he said all the yelling is nothing like his personality, it is hard for me to think of him as quiet and calm! I couldn't give it 5 stars because I felt the end was too drawn out.

Delicious

Humble Pie is the most entertaining bio I've consumed. Like a decadent meal. I just didn't want it to end.
I had respect for Mr. Ramsay before, after all he got me back in my own kitchen and loving it, but having heard some of
his story personally, I'm overboard with admiration.

He has also rekindled a flame I've always had for service standards, particularly in the restaurant and food industry. You just can't forget about the importance of service. No more will I apologize for my high standards. More importantly is leading by example. He's clearly done that. God Bless Gordon Ramsay. The more he gives the more he receives. That teaches. And oh, he's as easy on the ears as he is on the eyes.
