Publisher's summary

Everyone thinks they know the real Gordon Ramsay: rude, loud, pathologically driven, stubborn as hell. But this is his real story…

This is Gordon Ramsay’s autobiography – the first time he has told the full story of how he became the world’s most famous and infamous chef: his difficult childhood, his brother’s heroin addiction and his failed first career as a footballer: all of these things have made him the celebrated culinary talent and media powerhouse that he is today. Gordon talks frankly about:

  • his tough childhood: his father’s alcoholism and violence and the effects on his relationships with his mother and siblings
  • his first career as a footballer: how the whole family moved to Scotland when he was signed by Glasgow Rangers at the age of fifteen, and how he coped when his career was over due to injury just three years later
  • his brother’s heroin addiction.
  • Gordon’s early career: learning his trade in Paris and London; how his career developed from there: his time in Paris under Albert Roux and his seven Michelin-starred restaurants.
  • kitchen life: Gordon spills the beans about life behind the kitchen door, and how a restaurant kitchen is run in Anthony Bourdain-style.
  • and how he copes with the impact of fame on himself and his family: his television career, the rapacious tabloids, and his own drive for success.

Big Fan of Ramsay

A good listen. I just wish it was more about his personal life and less about his career.

He’s human and I love the story he tells

Gordon Ramsay is great. We all know that but he’s actually a decent gentlemen who is misunderstood. I enjoyed the book.

Great chef. Good book

Who wouldn't jump at the chance to have Gordon Ramsey purr into your ear for three hours?? I certainly did. Having been a Gordon Ramsey fan ever since Kitchen Nightmares UK, I found this book very very enjoyable. I wished it was a bit longer but what I did get was a brief glimpse into Gordon's world and a much better understanding of the man he is. I did find the music selection that played between the chapters very offputting as it sounds more suited to a book set on the Louisiana bayou but I can live with that...

Awesome book!

Loved it! Gordon is so down to Earth and his struggle massive. Very insightful autobiography of one of the world's greatest Culinary Artists. He reads the book himself and stays true to character with cursing and some emotion. Entertaining and somewhat short, I finished it in one sitting.

Gordon Ramsey is just real & engaging

I love the way Gordon takes ownership of everything that he does. What you see is what you get. He has a lovely way of bringing the listener/reader into his world. Can’t say enough about how much I admire this guy. He would make a great friend to anyone. Funny as hell too!
