Publisher's summary

A witty, warm, and inspiring memoir from E News! host, Fashion Police panelist, red-carpet correspondent, author, and reality show star Giuliana Rancic.

Giuliana Rancic is best known for interviewing A-listers on the red carpet and E! News, skewering their shocking style choices on Fashion Police, and giving viewers a front-row seat to her marriage and family life on her reality show, Giuliana & Bill. What fans may not know is that she learned English from Eddie Murphy, got her American citizenship so she could be a beauty queen, and used to have a bad habit of stealing cars for fun.

Giuliana bares this and so much more in her hilarious, warm, and inspiring memoir, Going off Script. From a young age she dreamed of being a TV anchorwoman, but because of her inclination toward mischief and away from schoolwork, her path to her dream job was far from straight. After a fateful (and mortifying) encounter with the late Senator Ted Kennedy, she learned that Hollywood news was where she belonged. Thankfully for listeners, this epiphany led her to a bounty of LA misadventures (featuring notables such as Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Russell Crowe) and an entertaining behind-the-scenes perspective on what our favorite celebrities are really like.

In spite of her glamorous Hollywood life, however, Giuliana could not escape some rockier times, including her battles with infertility and breast cancer. Here, for the first time, she reveals the whole truth behind her well-publicized struggles and the highly controversial decisions she had to make. And, of course, at the heart of it all are the two loves of her life who keep her strong through everything: her husband, Bill, and her son, Duke.

Candid, funny, and poignant, Going off Script is an autobiography that proves you don't always have to follow the rules to get the life you've always dreamed of.

Poor Little Princess

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Maybe.....if you are into a fluff Hollywood story.

If you’ve listened to books by Giuliana Rancic before, how does this one compare?

Have not read anything else.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

While I appreciate her agony and fear of a cancer diagnosis.....she is certainly not the first woman to have survived it. And with her wealth and connections, being able to arrange a conference call of experts to help her make a decision leaves me cold and hopefully she is aware that many cannot do that and must make a difficult decision alone or with family. I hope she is aware of how fortunate she is. And the endless "fear of flying" got obnoxious, especially when she was able to fly her and her new baby home on a private jet. Really G....get over yourself!

Was Going off Script worth the listening time?

Yes, but with some reservations. She occasionally comes across as a pompous Hollywood princess. Many don't have the ability to weigh all the options you have. And when you and Bill needed to "sell your mansion" in Illinois as it had too many rooms....OMG.

Any additional comments?

Please don't inflict any of your paranoia onto your sweet son.

Love G

Would you listen to Going off Script again? Why?

Probably, G was real. She is one fouled mouth lady, but I love it. If you do not like swearing this is not the book for you. I was hoping she'd have more Hollywood dirt, but the over all story was good.

What other book might you compare Going off Script to and why?

No sure, maybe Jennie Garth's autobiography.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

She was very newsreporter for this book. Loved her "just go with it" attitude of the book, but a little more emotion or depth would have been nice to hear. I felt she just read through it.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I love G and Bill and have followed them throughout the years. I would for sure recommend this book to another fan, but if you are not a fan than you probably wont enjoy the book.

Any additional comments?

I just love how "real" she is. She is CRAZY, but I love that about her. Not afraid to show her true self!

who would've known?

I was glad the author narrated the book.
I was surprised by her feisty personality -and
teenage antics. In the age of reality TV and "too much info" , I gained a new respect for her by listening to her tell her story without commercials.

So disappointed

I tried to like this book. I didn't realize she thought of herself so highly. Her saying she's better than some did it for me. I heard her down so many people in this book. It doesn't surprise me that her career took a downward spiral. After listening to this book I don't think she knows how blessed she is that she recovered from cancer and was blessed with a son. She does know that her money done the talking when her mouth couldn't. I wished I hadn't chose this book because I loved her...now I barely like her.

Going off Script - The Tale of a Failed Actress

Apart from the cancers diagnosis and the challenges from that, there was not much of anything else of interest.

Same as reality show...

I am a fan, but if you watched the reality that's pretty much it... Added some childhood memories that were enjoyable. At times it felt like Giuliana was full of herself, always pointing how she was always right or how she's above celebrities... I really wanted to like this book, but I found myself rolling my eyes with certain Diva-like comments when it was interview related stories, obviously I liked the already known story of IVF's, cancer etc. I cheered for you before and it's still inspiring but I guess I didn't want an exact description of each episode again... I have DVR... I was eager to finish the book only so I could review it...
