Publisher's summary

One year ago, Sarah Palin burst onto the national political stage like a comet. Yet even now, few Americans know who this remarkable woman really is.

As chief executive of America's largest state, Sarah Palin had built a record as a reformer who pushed through changes other politicians only talked about: energy independence, ethics reform, and the biggest private-sector energy infrastructure project in U.S. history. While revitalizing public school funding and ensuring the state met its responsibilities to seniors and Alaska Native populations, Palin also brought Big Oil to heel.

She was a Main Street American woman: a working mom, wife of a blue-collar union man, and the mother of five children. But as the presidential campaign unfolded, Palin became a lightning rod for both praise and criticism. And few knew the real Sarah Palin.

In this eagerly anticipated memoir, Palin paints an intimate portrait of growing up in the wilds of Alaska; meeting her lifelong love; her decision to enter politics; the importance of faith and family; and the unique joys and trials of life as a high-profile working mother. She also opens up for the first time about the 2008 presidential race, providing a rare, mom's-eye view of high-stakes national politics - from patriots dedicated to "Country First" to slick politicos bent on winning at any cost.

Going Rogue traces one ordinary citizen's extraordinary journey, and imparts Palin's vision of a way forward for America and her unfailing hope in the greatest nation on earth.

Autobiographical Pap

Going Rogue lacked the essential element that I look for in a good biography, critical self examination. Throughout, Sarah explores the actions of others, identifies mistakes and wrongdoings, and assigns lots motivation(s)to others, all the while explaining that her actions are always motivated by principle and god. In regards to the 2008 presidential campaign the book is nothing short of one long "whine" regarding how unfairly she was treated and how inept McCain staffers were in their management of the campaign and Sarah's role. There is not one ill word of Mr. McCain, as if McCain had nothing to do with limiting her role, I felt left to wonder if it had even occured to Sarah that she was not Mr. McCain's first choice (maybe Lieberman or Ridge?). Was Sarah Palin choosen for the vice presidential running mate as concession to the Christian right of the GOP, a choice made to garner right wing money and votes? We don't know, like the rest of the book Sarah doesn't explore anything with a critical eye. Of her political career Sarah says she was not driven by ambition, nor by any particular goal, like power, wealth, or fame. Sarah tells us she was driven by purpose (as in the purpose driven life?). If the book reveals anything at all about the real Sarah Palin it's about her religious beliefs, which I found chilling and disturbed. Throughout the book, Sarah tells us she always prayed on decisions large and small and then waited for god to give her "signs". I've seen the video of hands being laid on Sarah in her Church while prayers were said for her political success, I would have liked to have read about this in her book. I am unsure of Sarah's exact belief's regarding the role of religion in politics, having to speculate is disturbing. I can't recommend this book.

Refreshing, Regardless of Political Viewpoints

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, especially after all the media hype for and against Sarah Palin. Hearing her tell her story and share her views in her own voice made the experience even more personal. Palin is unashamedly Christian here -- she just doesn't identify with Christ , she has woven Him into the fabric of her individual life, her family and her career. She is also unashamedly conservative politically, what she likes to call a "common sense conservative." I've read other reviews on this book claiming that Palin is whining about her treatment during the 2008 Presidential campaign, but I don't sense it. She does give her response to a lot of the media talking points, but is upbeat and optimistic in doing so. I'm not sure I'd vote for Sarah if she was on the top of the ticket, but her life and story are certainly inspirational to me. Her candor and down-to-earth style are refreshing in a political world dominated by photo ops and spin doctors. This title is a very good read, if for nothing else than to get Sarah Palin's views on Sarah Palin. I recommend it highly.

Heartwarming and Patriotic

The writing was so thoughtful and expressive, the details made me feel like I was there with her, and I felt like I was listening to a very dear friend talk about her day. The more I heard, the more I wanted to hear. It was wonderful to hear her speak uncensored and describe her views of America and what patriotism means to her. Because I bought the audio version, I was able to hear her emotions while she recalled fine details of significant moments of her life. The coverage of the campaign comes towards the end, but what clearly broke her heart was resigning as Governor of Alaska, a state which she so obviously loves. I learned and enjoyed. She has my vote of approval!

No new information

I had heard everything in the book before. She complains about how she was treated in the media and how she was treated by the McCain campaign and then how badly she was treated when she returned to Alaska. She again tries to make her decision to resign as governor sound heroic.
For me - I was never a fan of Gov. Palin - it did nothing to change my opinion.

Going Rogue is great.

You'll get the inside scoop about what really happened on the campaign trail, and a deep look into a women that is very much down to earth.
Listening to Sarah tell her story is very enjoyable. She does not just read it to you, but makes you feel as if you are sitting there with her and talking to her about it.

Powerful book by a powerful woman !

Sarah Palin is a normal average person, not your average politician however. This book tells the true story of her career and the troubles she experienced as a 'non corrupt' politician. The main stream media should be ashamed of themselfs for not exposing the real criminals in this country. This is a very powerful book everyone should read - everyone!!

An amazing story, very well read

This is a fantastic audio book. I bought two of her hardcopy books at one of the tour signings (that was the limit), but gave them as presents. So I downloaded the audio book for myself. What a surprise! She does an excellent job reading the book and sharing not only her story, but her personality.

It is a very honest look at her life and really shows the inside story of her political career without the filter of a biased media.

I highly recommend this book, especially in the audio format.

A Great Read

This book illustrates not only the character, but the conviction of Sarah Palin and to an extent her family as well. It's also a rather telling look at the failures of the McCain campaign during 2008.

It illustrates her position as a "Common Sense Conservative" quite nicely. I throughly enjoyed the book and would recommend it to anyone (with the exception those that blindly hate her). Once started, I couldn't put it down!

Refreshing Honesty

This was a great audio book read by the author. Sometimes these fall short and would be better read by another reader, but in this case, Sarah Palin adds credibility to the words. She is so sincere in her reading, which makes it feel like she is having a direct conversation with each listener. Sarah is open and honest and comes across as an above average person living an average American family life by choice. She lives her convictions, which is rare today.
