Publisher's summary

One year ago, Sarah Palin burst onto the national political stage like a comet. Yet even now, few Americans know who this remarkable woman really is.

As chief executive of America's largest state, Sarah Palin had built a record as a reformer who pushed through changes other politicians only talked about: energy independence, ethics reform, and the biggest private-sector energy infrastructure project in U.S. history. While revitalizing public school funding and ensuring the state met its responsibilities to seniors and Alaska Native populations, Palin also brought Big Oil to heel.

She was a Main Street American woman: a working mom, wife of a blue-collar union man, and the mother of five children. But as the presidential campaign unfolded, Palin became a lightning rod for both praise and criticism. And few knew the real Sarah Palin.

In this eagerly anticipated memoir, Palin paints an intimate portrait of growing up in the wilds of Alaska; meeting her lifelong love; her decision to enter politics; the importance of faith and family; and the unique joys and trials of life as a high-profile working mother. She also opens up for the first time about the 2008 presidential race, providing a rare, mom's-eye view of high-stakes national politics - from patriots dedicated to "Country First" to slick politicos bent on winning at any cost.

Going Rogue traces one ordinary citizen's extraordinary journey, and imparts Palin's vision of a way forward for America and her unfailing hope in the greatest nation on earth.

One Great American

I enjoyed the book completely and I connect with her ideas. Hearing her read this book was the best way to listen to it and it makes it more acceptable.

How Did So Many People Know?

I was amazed at the pre-order sales figures leading up to the release of Going Rogue. I like Sarah Palin, but I didn't think enough to purchase her book. Saw it was available as an audio book, but in an abridged version. Decided to purchase it anyway and WOW! Have listened to it twice already. All the craziness of the campaign makes sense now.

Sarah really is a Rock Star! I am certain she is why McCain's popular vote was so high. Had his people not gotten in her way, I believe the numbers would have been better yet, even a win. Listen to her words and her actions make sense. I wish I was as smart in my life plan as she. Using her as a model, I am going to help my child better succeed! Where's the unabridged audio version? I'm eager for it. Go, Sarah, Go!

Better than Expected!

A friend of mine kept recommending this, and he was correct. Palin is a remarkable individual, obviously intelligent, interesting and inspirational. She does a good job of narration. My opinion of her has changed much for the better.

I'm glad I got the Audio version

I give the book 3 stars for content and 5 stars for naration.

The book covers quite a bit as an autobiography and the last section is sort of her political platform. I'm glad to hear it from her point of view. During the campaign it was difficult to separate what was really Sara Palin and what was Tina Fay. She addresses in detail why she wasn't really allowed to go "off script" during the camppaign.

If nothing else she is a very good narator! Most authors tend not to keep my interest when they read their own books. She sells her point of view well.

Worth a credit and a listen? You Betcha!

I knew it was unlikely that I would agree with her politics, and was prepared for a painful listen. I was surprised.

An easy, favorite target of the media, Ms. Palin made a good case about the lack of balanced and responsible journalism in this country, then she turned around and pointed the finger flatly and squarely on "liberal media". The outrageous partisan mudslinging in Washington is bad for America and both sides are guilty. I was disappointed by her lack of graciousness here, which seemed out of place in an otherwise pretty upbeat narrative.

Any thinking person following the elections would have questioned at one point or another the fairness of the media's portrayal of Ms. Palin. I was interested in hearing her side of the story and thought she did a decent job explaining herself, balancing embarrassment, outrage, indignance, and yes, even a little humility. Policy-lite, but personally rich, it was a coming of age story. I found her sincere and real and it was enjoyable to follow along with her adventures in the world of national party and election politics.

Getting a sense of her background, it seems that she was guilty mainly of trying to bring national politics back to her kitchen table, a context that many can relate to, and made me wonder why more people didn't respond to her - isn't that the same "folksy" schtick that got George W the biggest bully pulpit on earth? While Washington could certainly use more common sense, it is also irresponsible when politicians oversimplify the issues and speak down to Americans - comparing the complexities of a national budget to a household budget, for example. So, Sarah, while I'm relieved you're not second in line to the Oval Office, I enjoyed getting to know you and thought your memoir was "Positively Palin" and well worth the listen!

Very Enlightening Book!

I love it that Sarah narrated her audio book, as I felt she was personally telling me her life story. It is amazing that her life was so average prior to entering politics. She does not fit the stereotypical model of a politian. Her perspective of the vice-presidential campaign is so much different than the media portrayed. I believe her version and admire her strength when facing these lying vultures. I am glad that I took the time to learn more about who she really is. Hopefully, we will see more of her in the future! I would recommend this book.

getting to know Sarah Palin, from her prespective

I enjoyed the book very much. We are given such a inaccurate view of Sarah in the news; it was nice to hear from her.

Positively Palin

Sarah Palin comes across as a very nice and down-to-earth person. I want to believe this about her but she wrote her own book so it may be a little biased. I believe the press and the McCain campaign leaders did not allow the American people to meet the real Sarah Palin, what a shame. I gave the book 4 stars because it was a good listen but not a great listen. The question is... Would I vote for her? The answer is maybe. I would vote for her from the perspective that I believe she is honest and cares for America in the Reagan tradition. I would vote for her for the position of Representative, Governor or even Senator. I would not vote for her for President. She is a nice person but lacks the depth of experience and ideas needed for the leader of the free world. If she had a radio series like Reagan or a TV series like Huckabee and promoted worthwhile ideas she could gain needed exposure. If she ran for the Senate and showed she could compete and lead in such an arena she may be Presidential material. She is worth a future look.
Good luck Sarah. May the Lord continue to guide you.

An Adventuresome Spirit Telling It from Her Heart

This fine woman doesn't require a teleprompter to deliver an inspiring performance. She loves God, people, and liberty. Hearing her own words of her adventures with family, community, and politics inspires me to believe liberty can survive. I want more from Sarah and I believe she's willing to serve in the name of God.
