Computer Programmer and Worship Leader. Have enjoyed reading since my mom got me hooked on Nancy Drew and Agatha Christie prior to my teen years. My brother got me hooked on audio books after I started having a longer commute to work. Love a variety of genres.

    "Bravo!"

What a great read!! Not only did I learn a lot about Bonnie & Clyde, but also about the economic conditions that produced these two outlaws. While it is truly sad what they did with their lives, their stories are really fascinating.

I had seen the movie with Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway. It was interesting to watch it again after reading this book and to note the "glamorization" of the two villians, as well as the many misrepresentations in the movie.

Some of the more fascinating facts have to do with the techinques they used to outgun and outrun the law. The story of how Clyde got out of prison the first time is not only interesting but unbelievably ironic. And the story of the poverty they grew up in (especially Clyde) is almost unbelievable.

One other notable theme was how many times they were severely injured and managed to live through it. Hard to believe that they actually didn't die much sooner.

The only thing that surprised me is that the chapter on their death almost seems anticlimatic and brief. The truth of the ambush and the aftermath of their death also holds many unexpected surprises.

Mr. Guinn has done a GREAT job. I learned a great deal and highly recommend this book!!

Unlike some other reviews, I had no issues with the narrator.

"GO DOWN TOGETHER IS A FANTASTIC LISTEN!!!"

GET THIS BOOK...LISTEN TO EVERY WORD...Jeff Guinn, you wrote a wonderful book. Before I say anything about "Go Down Together", the story of Bonnie and Clyde I do want to mention the only books I review are the ones I consider great. I have over 100 books in my Audio Library which allows me to say the bad as well as the good. I choose to only recommend...NOT criticize!

Any person that is a fan of true crime, regardless of the time period the story takes place, will love this audio book. I could not put it down. In fact, after listening to it, I had to go back and make sure I actually heard what I heard. Ironically, the ending actually made me feel sorry for Bonnie and Clyde. Hopefully, I am not the only weirdo that feels that way. Forget the movie, forget every book you have read about these two murderers, and forget anything related to folk tales! Jeff Guinn has written the real thing. THIS IS THE RESEARCHED BOOK I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR. I enjoyed every single minute of it. The length went by so fast; the 16 hours were over before I realized it.

Yes, I have a job. However, every single second of free time I was able to muster up, went to this great listen. "GO DOWN TOGETHER", regardless of price is now number two in my collection of over 100 audio books. I will probably listen to it again in a few months. WHAT A FASCINATING AND INTERESTING STORY. These two characters disserve to go down in history. I loved it...THAT'S IT!!! And yes...I do recommend THE TRUE STORY OF BONNIE AND CLYDE to everyone.

    "Good Story, Weird Narration"

The story was absolutely gripping. It is a well written factual telling of the story, without being overwrought or apologizing for the actions of the Barrows. However, the narrator is distracting. He has some kind of strange lisp or slur. "Clyde" is pronounced "Dide" consistently, and there are other oddities. If you can get past the delivery, this book is great.

"Something is very seriously wrong with narration"

With sincere hope Jonathan Hogan is healthy, it should be noted the narration is absolutely terrible. Plurals are dropped with appalling frequency; at times even altering meaning. Surely the producer of this book must have noticed the performance sounds as if the narrator had been drinking. I've enjoyed over 300 audio books... unfortunately, Jonathan Hogan is a horrendous distraction to an otherwise excellent piece. Read "Go Down Together" rather than waste money on this version

    "Fascinating story"

Reading like a novel, this telling of the Bonnie and Clyde saga was both informative and entertaining. It describes in great detail the people behind the legend. Bonnie comes across as an adoring girlfriend rather than the hardened criminal portrayed in story and staged photographs. Also a story of the Great Depression and its impact on the working poor. Highly recommended!

Enjoyed all the details. The story was different than I thought, who knew criminals would be so family oriented.

"I couldn't stop listening - the story is that good"
Where does Go Down Together rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I love history and I love biography. This book brings them both together, and brings them alive. Listening to this audiobook helped me understand who they were and why they made the choices they made. I was sad to see their end come -- they felt like people I knew and cared about. A top notch book.

What did you like best about this story?

I really appreciated how the author put their story in the context of the economic and social conditions of their time -- I could see what had shaped them.

What does Jonathan Hogan bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narrator brings a "down home" feel to the book. He sounds like someone who knew Clyde and Bonnie.

What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?

I wish the author had talked more about Clyde's interest in music. I'm glad he talked about Bonnie's poetry. People were more willing to be creative back then.

    Any additional comments?

I enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.

    "More Then Credit Worthy!!!"

Make sure you start this book when you have a lot of free time. You will be listening to it night and day. I was so engrossed with this book that when I was driving around listening to it, and would see a police car, I would get a sick feeling in my stomach. This book takes you in and envelopes you until the end. Be prepared to do some internet searches to follow along with pictures and timelines.

Some of the early reviewers said they had a problem with the narrorator but I thought he did a very good job.

    Any additional comments?

This was a great story. I was captivated and couldn't listen fast enough. My only gripe was the narrator was only pretty good. I've heard worse on audible, but I've heard better too. My main gripes were his pronunciation of Dallas as "Dallath", and a Ford coupe as a "koo-pay". Also, he had a monotone, which at times downplayed the excitement of the scene. Think Tom Bodet in the Motel 6 commercials, he kind of sounded like that. But overall it was still a great listen and I highly recommend it. The details, facts, and fictions of Bonnie and Clyde were amazing.
