Publisher's summary

With dramatic flair, Jeff Guinn delivers the definitive portrait of Bonnie and Clyde. These media-savvy outlaws appealed to America's Depression-era hunger for swashbuckling characters. Glowing radio and newspaper reports transformed these "public enemies" into celebrities - much like the cinema gangsters of the time.

Critic reviews

"With the brisk pacing of a novel, Guinn's richly detailed history will leave readers breathless until the final hail of bullets." ( Publishers Weekly)
"A fine work of history.... Easily readable and includes much of the last two decades' new scholarship.... Go Down Together is especially good at...placing Bonnie and Clyde in context." ( The New York Times Book Review)

Unbelievable book!

Well researched, well written, the narrative is just ok, but this is a great book.

THE Book on Bonne and Clyde!

Packed full of information of litte known facts. I have been reading about Bonnie and Clyde for fifty years and learned more from this book than any other book I have read.

Eye opening.

I was farmilliar with the lore surrounding this story, but it was beautiful to hear another version. It's hard to really know the truth about the past but I thoroughly enjoyed this piece.

The Couple Behind the Infamy

What made the experience of listening to Go Down Together the most enjoyable?

The book was fantastically meticulous, detailed in so many ways and able to account for it's titular protagonists using witness testimony and historical documents

Who was your favorite character and why?

Bonnie & Clyde of course! Jeff Guinn does an excellent job of humanizing these outlaw figures into the real flesh and blood people they were. Quirks et al. Behind the infamy Bonnie was very much a normal girl who would have loved this Instagram age and Clyde is a victim of his own poor judgement and stubbornness mixed with a lot of bad and good luck.

Have you listened to any of Jonathan Hogan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I know a lot of people have complained about the narrator. I didn't notice or have any issues and found his voice a good fit for this book. Maybe I don't hear the subtle nuances that American listeners do.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Despite all the people that were killed by the Barrow gang I still didn't want them to die. Again, this is because of the excellent exploration of Bonnie & Clyde, by the time they reach the end of their journey we know them intimately and it's hard to dislike them in spite of their crimes.

Any additional comments?

Worth a credit!

true to the end

this book did not make them out to be all lovey.which is not real life anyway. they were just bad people doing bad things. they were loyal to each other I admire that about them. Thank you for writing a honest true tell to a overly romanticized story.

bingeworthy

first off, the narrators voice was calming. the book was so well written, giving back story to all the characters. as I was thinking of questions I found that the author had answered them in chapters to follow. everything was wrapped up! it was so good, makes me want to go on a Bonnie and Clyde pilgrimage to texas/louisiana .

Wonderfully rich story

So well written and narrated. Guinn is a profoundly talented author giving lots of detail but never bogging down.
