Publisher's summary

Here, from Bill Clinton, is a call to action. Giving is an inspiring look at how each of us can change the world. First, it reveals the extraordinary and innovative efforts now being made by companies and organizations and by individuals to solve problems and save lives both "down the street and around the world". Then it urges us to seek out what each of us, "regardless of income, available time, age, and skills", can do to help.

Bill Clinton shares his own experiences and those of other givers, representing a global flood tide of nongovernmental, nonprofit activity. These remarkable stories demonstrate that gifts of time, skills, things, and ideas are as important and effective as contributions of money.

Clinton writes about men and women who traded in their corporate careers and the fulfillment they now experience through giving. He writes about progressive companies going green, about promoting fair wages and decent working conditions around the world. He outlines what we as individuals can do, the steps we can take, how much we should consider giving, and why our giving is so important.

Bill Clinton's own actions in his post-presidential years have had an enormous impact on the lives of millions. Through his foundation and his work in the aftermath of the Asian tsunami and Hurricane Katrina, he has become an international spokesperson and model for the power of giving.

"We all have the capacity to do great things," President Clinton says. "My hope is that the people and stories in this audiobook will lift spirits, touch hearts, and demonstrate that citizen activism and service can be a powerful agent of change in the world."

Yawn.

This audio book has a meaningful message but it is grueling to listen to. It almost put me to sleep while driving from San Diego to Tucson. Bill Clinton is an excellent speaker but somehow that skill is lost when he narrates his book.

I didn't enjoy this book.

I didn't enjoy this book. I probably approached it the wrong way but I was looking for a way on how Clinton left The White House dead broke and somehow to the Clinton Foundation to $197 million in investments. It wasn't a how to book on that at all. It was more of campaign speech that didn't age well. (he spent way too much time talking about light bulbs that would save the world but in reality were leapfrogged by LED lightbulbs.) Also the Harvey Weinstein name drop didn't age well either. I would just recommend listening to old campaign speeches to be honest.

By now a bit outdated

It read bit like laundry list. Some ideas are still relevant today but overall it is a bit dated. Fortunately Clinton has a great voice to get you through the book. If you read it yourself you would probably struggle finishing it.

Disappointing

I was really looking forward to this book-especially because Bill Clinton reads it himself and it is a topic in which I have a huge amount of interest. However, while listening to the first chapter, I couldn't get past the fact that it sounded like another way to boost Hillary's presidential campaign because it lists all the wonderful things she has done for others. This unfortunately turned me off right from the start. The rest of the book is OK, but not as great expected.

not a book to listen to, a book to read

I thought Bill's narration was too fast and monotoned. I would like to buy the book for all the great references of charities and organizations. It's not something that's meant to be listened to. However, I did really enjoy his accounts of givers and their stories. The rest is just hard to remember.

Terrible.

A litany of public service projects and NGOs laced with shameless political grandstanding. Reminiscent of a never-ending Clinton State of the Union address or political acceptance speech. Don't waste your money.

A Dissapointment

Filled with case after case of generosity which is to be admired, but after the 10th or 11th it becomes a bit "dull" to listen to. There is little practical challenge for the reader to become more involved and generous.
