Flashes: Adventures in Dating Through Menopause

Flashes is a story of coming of age again. While discovering that sex was the best cure for hot flashes, she also uncovered the secrets she had hidden from herself.

As author Michelle Churchill approached her 50th birthday, she found herself careening toward menopause. Suddenly, she could think of nothing but men - about their hairy bodies, their legs and how their hands would feel running up and down her own body. She had an ever-present desire to have male contact in any way she could. So, how does a single woman living in New York City accomplish this? The author turned to her computer....

The author turned to her computer, the only thing she’d had a true relationship with in the past decade and signed up for every online dating service she could find.

Flashes tells the story of those adventures through a series of dates, from the young man who pretended to be a senior citizen to date older women to the guy who showed up for a first date carrying a bag of sex toys. With passionate wit, Churchill examines how she got to middle age alone and where she’s going.

"Well written, well read, enjoyable read"
What did you love best about Flashes?

The author told her story in a very interesting manner and did a nice job with the narration. Once I started this book, it was difficult to put down until I finished it.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Flashes?

How the author labels each of her dates.

What does Bobbin Beam bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She has a very pleasant voice and used nice inflections when appropriate.

What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?

Just how much of an emotional effect menopause has on women. Before this, I had no idea.

    Any additional comments?

    Highly recommend this book.

    "Buy a "smart cocktail" instead."
Would you try another book from Michelle Churchill and/or Bobbin Beam?

I would not read or listen to another book by this author. I expected some kind of humorous insight about dating and midlife and it was just not very interesting or funny. I did not understand the idea of a "smart cocktail" but she used the term every time she had a drink and she had plenty to drink!

Has Flashes turned you off from other books in this genre?

    Yes
