Publisher's Summary

On September 2, 2013, at the age of 64, Diana Nyad emerged onto the sands of Key West after swimming 111 miles, nation to nation, Cuba to Florida, in an epic feat of both endurance and human will, in 53 hours. Diana carried three poignant messages on her way across this stretch of shark-infested waters, and she spoke them to the crowd in her moment of final triumph:

  1. Never, ever give up.
  2. You're never too old to chase your dreams.
  3. It looks like a solitary sport, but it's a team.

Millions of people around the world cheered this maverick on, moved by her undeniable tenacity to be the first to make the historic crossing without the aid of a shark cage. At the end of her magnificent journey, after 35 years and four crushing failures, the public found hope in Diana's perseverance. They were inspired by her mantra - find a way - that led her to realize a dream in her 60s that had eluded her as a young champion in peak form.

In Find a Way, Diana engages us with a unique, passionate story of this heroic adventure and the extraordinary life experiences that have served to carve her unwavering spirit.

Diana was a world champion in her 20s, setting the record for swimming around Manhattan Island along with other ocean-swim achievements, all of which rendered her a star at the time. Back then, she made the first attempt at the Mount Everest of swims, the Cuba Swim, but after 42 hours and 79 miles she was blown desperately off course. Her dream unfulfilled, she didn't swim another stroke for three decades.

What the Critics Say

"Hearing [Nyad] tell her story in her own words adds another dimension to the endeavor, and the listener feels her single-minded dedication to her goal. Her description of the challenging circumstances she overcame early in her life is jarring, and makes her achievements even more impressive. Nyad also gives the listener glimpses of her mind while swimming by singing the songs that help her to maintain her stroke, counting in various languages, and yelping when stung by jellyfish." "A crazy, inspirational woman!"

I am a Nyad groupie, so this was a must-listen for me. Nyad telling her own story is key to this book, I think. Even though I have followed all of her attempts on-line, and seen the video of her finish several times, hearing her read about this moment still made me teary. Nyad is the most impressive example I know, other than Holocaust survivors of putting mind over matter and staying focused on your goals. Onward!

Maybe, it's a great book-straightforward and well-edited, though I don't know how much I would gain from a second listen.

The honesty and authentic nature of the narration by Dyana, her story is compelling, and hearing her tell it, gives further depth to a great bio.

    Too many to count!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Nearly :)

This story is simply superb! Enjoy!
Adding some filler words since there is apparently a twenty word minimum ;)

"One of the most powerful & meaningful stories!"

I hoped, I struggled, I laughed & I cried right along with the author. Diana did the story true justice by reading it herself as her voice carried the heart & conviction that was, no doubt, truly present. I loved every word!
