Publisher's summary

A larger-than-life hero with a towering personality, Robin Olds was a graduate of West Point and an inductee in the National College Football Hall of Fame for his All-American performance for Army. In World War II, Olds quickly became a top fighter pilot and squadron commander by the age of 22—a double ace with 12 aerial victories.

But it was in Vietnam where the man became a legend. He motivated a dejected group of pilots by placing himself under junior officers and challenging them to train him properly. He led the wing with aggressiveness, scoring another four confirmed kills and becoming a rare triple ace. With his marriage to Hollywood actress and pin-up girl Ella Raines, his nonregulation mustache and penchant for drink, Olds was a unique individual whose story is one of the most eagerly anticipated military books of the year.

Christina Olds, the daughter of Robin Olds, holds a B.A. in English and creative writing from Vassar, is a member of the Air Force Association, and is the first honorary lifetime member of the Red River Valley Association.

Ed Rasimus is a retired USAF fighter pilot who holds a B.S. in political science and an M.S. in both political science and international relations. He has previously written two books on the Vietnam air war, When Thunder Rolled and Palace Cobra.

A must read/ listen

A must read for everyone who loves history the military or airplanes. The way the story is written makes it easy to follow and leaves you wanting more. Tells the history of the world from the late 1920's through the Vietnam war and after from one fighter pilots view. The description of planes makes this still enjoyable for those with little or no knowledge of flying. Overall, a must read!

Fan-Tastic!

When it comes to Pilot Memoirs it does not get better than this. Not just fantastic flying in aircraft stories but also great insight into the fight in Vietnam and how to be a leader.

Highly recommended if you like Memoirs!

Don't let the title fool you, this is not just a book about a fighter pilot! Robin Olds truly was a larger than life personality. The memoirs detail how he attained his Ace Fighter Pilot status and where that career took him. From leadership positions within the Air Force to Washington DC, Robin was an influential pilot and leader. His life outside of the cockpit was just as interesting having married a movie star.

He talks about his opinions and recounts on the different wars that he was involved in, particularly Vietnam, that show a historical viewpoint from a fighter pilot. I definitely recommend this book.

Amazing story of a amazing man's life.

I loved the story. I'm a Combat Vet of Iraq so I could relate on a different level but at the same time some of it was completely different to me. It's amazing what the old timers did and this is a good book.

Amazing book

One of the best books I’ve ever read/heard. Incredible life and incredible story. I’ve listened to the audio book at least half a dozen times. The language isn’t for everyone nor is all of the plot but still a great adventure.

Didn't disappoint

I loved every bit of the book. The story was genuine, the telling was authentic, and I believe Robin Olds was true to his nature. If you like history and war stories, this book is for you.

This is one of the most amazing stories I have heard! The performance was great and the story spectacular! I recommend this to everyone even if not interested in aviation. . .there is so much more than just flying in this biography!

Spineless Cowards Killed the USAF and America.

Great eye opening book. CIA drugs, piss-poor-parenting and Leadership, threw this once great Proud America into a zoo. Pilot shortage issues would be no more, if anyone took Old's advice and ran with it.
