Publisher's summary

Whether navigating the backroads of Louisiana or Thuringia, exploring the snowy Quebec woods, or performing onstage at Rush concerts, Neil Peart has stories to tell. His first volume in this series, Far and Away, combined words and images to form an intimate, insightful narrative that won many fans. Now Far and Near brings together reflections from another three years of an artist's life as he celebrates seasons, landscapes, and characters; travels roads and trails; receives honors; climbs mountains; and composes and performs music. With passionate insight, wry humor, and an adventurous spirit, once again Peart offers a collection of open letters that take listeners on the road, behind the scenes, and into the inner workings of an ever-inquisitive mind. These popular stories, originally posted on Peart's website, are now collected and contextualized with an introduction and conclusion.

Why did I wait so Long?

Neil was tremendous talent and I should have known that his writing skills were no less terrific. For some reason I never felt compelled to read his books. Not really into travel logs. But now I wished I had and I'm glad I finally did. Fortunately he left these experiences and thoughts for all time. A lifelong fan of the band, As he details his travels between the shows, I can recall where I was as he was on his way to and from a show that I attended. In a small way I'm part of these journeys. There is a lot here to enjoy even if you don't know who he was, The writing and the story telling is great. I'm glad I have more of his books to look forward to.

Smooth Flowing. Very similar to Far and Away

The story flowed smoothly and once again Brian Sutherland did a excellent job.

Although, if you've read/listened to Far and Away you can expect almost the same story being told.

Ghost Rider is still the best.

Entertaining but need pictures!

As expensive as audiobooks are you would think that you would get a companion eBook with pictures for free. The entire book refers to photographs which you can't see if you do not pay $13.00 for the companion book. If it wasn't for how enjoyable the narrator was I'd just get the print version.

Great Stories, ok narration

I’m just starting to explore the books written by Neil Peart (i’ve never had time to read, so listing on my long drives is perfect) i’ve been a huge fan since the time i heard my first rush song, Working Man in 1984. Neil’s books are more about his experiences in his personal life rather than on stage (although he does touch on some of his experiences “at work”) the descriptions of the landscapes he rides are for the most part places i’ve been riding myself since the 1980s and the bring back such great memories, i’m amazed we never crossed paths! …but i digess, if you enjoy Rush, Motorcycles, The desert southwest this book is a great way to experience all of that and more through the eyes of Neil Peart

Another classic

Neil Peart once again delights us with tales from the road and home....his command of the English language and his ability to spin a yarn are epic!😄

Great Read

Far and Near: On Days Like These was a great read by Neil Peart. Neil Peart has many stories to tell of the roads that he has travelled and his many performances. This book brings together Neil's reflections from another three years of his life. He celebrates seasons, landscapes, and characters. I loved reading this great reflections and can't wait to read more of Neil's work.

Not my Favorite but I liked it.

Not my favorite book of his thus far, but I did enjoy it very much. By no means a bad book, but just compared to some other the others.

Got er done

Outstanding writing, as always. Personally, I could have done without the repeated claim of not being a "religion basher" while somewhat proving otherwise. Not commenting on the actual content, just this annoying repetitive theme. This alone is the only reason I didn't rate it 5 stars,. Farewell to a King.
