Publisher's summary

When Ben Underwood became blind at the age of two, anyone would have thought he faced a life full of hardship and uphill challenges - a world full of things he’d never be able to see and activities he’d never be able to enjoy. But as far as his mom, Aquanetta Gordon, was concerned, nothing was impossible for Ben . . . and so he accomplished the incredible. Known as “the boy who could see with sound,” Ben mastered human echolocation - the ability to detect the size, shape and location of objects through the reflection of sound waves.

By clicking his tongue and “seeing” the waves, Ben could ride his bike, shoot baskets, identify objects, and even play video games. Some called it a miracle, but to Ben and Aqua, the real miracles were the otherworldly experiences God gave Ben - physical and spiritual - that others couldn’t explain. Echoes of an Angel is the remarkable true story of how a child who seemed destined for darkness brought light to the world. It’s the story of a single mom who encouraged her son to push beyond his limits, even as her heart clenched with protective love and fear. And it’s the story of a family’s unshakable faith . . . in God and each other.

Disappointed

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Christians I guess

Has Echoes of an Angel turned you off from other books in this genre?

I will never listen to another christian audio book. Readers can draw inferences and make conclusions. Everything was spelled out and only one side was shown. Some parts were so obviously one sided and unbelievable.

What about Robin Miles’s performance did you like?

Good voice, good reader.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I read it because I was interested in Echo Location. Unfortunately that was only about 1/4 of the book.

God is so real.

What an amazing life story! God made sure to give Ben a gift. To know the Heavenly Father the way that young man did is powerful. Ben will forever remain alive through all the people that will read his story, that knew him personally, that hear about him.
I am a better person for having read this story.
Lord, I thank you for this story.

I can't stop crying

I was screening this book for my homeschool class. We have 6 children with our oldest being 11 and the youngest 2. During this pandemic, our older children realized that my husband and I could die and leave them. They have read the Bible and understand that we will all die one day. They also understand that we are black, living in the deep south and we all could die prematurely because of racism and ignorance. They also understand that I have Multiple Sclerosis and Daddy has Diabetes. When this realization hit, we had to explain to our children that death is only the beginning and we will be going home. There is nothing to fear...when you know where you are going. They didn't understand the peace in my tone. Not knowing how else to explain this sensitive topic, the Lord reminded me of the blind boy that could see and I discovered this book. What did Ben Underwood have to do with this topic? Now I know why I was led here. I had no idea this was a Christian book. As a Mother, this book gave me peace and confirmation that everything I told my children was not only believed by other people but came directly from the Lord. My tears are not tears of sadness but of joy. Thank you Aquanetta Gordon,
