Publisher's summary

Sgt. Don Malarkey takes us not only into the battles fought from Normandy to Germany, but into the heart and mind of a soldier who beat the odds to become an elite paratrooper and lost his best friend during the nightmarish engagement at Bastogne.

Drafted in 1942, Malarkey arrived at Toccoa Camp in Georgia and was one of six soldiers who earned their Eagle wings and went to England in 1943 to provide ground cover for the largest amphibious military attack in history: Operation Overlord.

In the darkness of D-Day morning, Malarkey parachuted into France and, within days, was awarded a Bronze Star for his heroism in battle. He fought for 23 days in Normandy, nearly 80 in Holland, 39 in Bastogne, and nearly 30 more in and near Haguenau, France, and the Ruhr pocket in Germany.

This is his dramatic tale of those bloody days fighting his way from the shores of France to the heartland of Germany, and the epic story of how an adventurous kid from Oregon became a leader of men.

Amazing Story, Lukewarm Performance

Any additional comments?

The story of Don Malarkey is compelling. He is a patriot in the most complete sense and all Americans owe him a debt which can never be repaid. A story such as his deserves better than the pedestrian performance contributed by the narrator. His diction is erratic, often pronouncing the same word differently at different times. Amazing story, mundane narrator.

I don't know how many Easy Company guys have written books, but I've listened to several and loved every one.

Amazing !

Don is a true American hero, and I enjoy his personal story of the 506th the best out of the other stories. Growing up in Oregon and having visited Astoria and now living in Eugene, it is amazing to be able to see the stomping grounds of Malarkey.

A more accurate account of Band Of Brothers

Don is the real deal and explains in more depth, with more accuracy and honesty than Band Of Brothers managed. I still enjoyed Band Of Brothers, but to know the full story, you really need to read this as well. To anyone who is an existing B.O.B fan, you will love that Don shared this.
