Publisher's summary

President George W. Bush describes the critical decisions of his presidency and personal life.

Decision Points is the extraordinary memoir of America’s 43rd president. Shattering the conventions of political autobiography, George W. Bush offers a strikingly candid journey through the defining decisions of his life. In gripping, never-before-heard detail, President Bush brings listeners inside the Texas Governor’s Mansion on the night of the hotly contested 2000 election; aboard Air Force One on 9/11, in the hours after America’s most devastating attack since Pearl Harbor; at the head of the table in the Situation Room in the moments before launching the war in Iraq; and behind the Oval Office desk for his historic and controversial decisions on the financial crisis, Hurricane Katrina, Afghanistan, Iran, and other issues that have shaped the first decade of the 21st century.

President Bush writes honestly and directly about his flaws and mistakes, as well as his accomplishments reforming education, treating HIV/AIDS in Africa, and safeguarding the country amid chilling warnings of additional terrorist attacks. He also offers intimate new details on his decision to quit drinking, discovery of faith, and relationship with his family.

A groundbreaking new brand of memoir, Decision Points will captivate supporters, surprise critics, and change perspectives on one of the most consequential eras in American history - and the man at the center of events.

Excellent

I don't agree with everything George W Bush did as president. This book was great because W explains how he doesn't agree with the way he did everything as president as well. His story about the Katrina Hurricane is quite something to learn about.

A clear and concise listen of American politics

This book is a great reminder that choices are more complicated than they seem. While the downsides will be like day through rose colored glasses, it was a clear and concise read of an American president.

Wonderful

What a wonderful book from one of the last great presidents of this country. A true leader reflecting on his successes and failures. Highly recommend.

Enjoyed the book

Good to hear Presidents Bush’s perspective on some of the decision he made while in WH. But some of his decision he took made him my favorite President.

Intersting to hear his view, very poor editing

This was a necessary book. It gives insight to the feelings and processes that shaped the American response over the eight years of the GW Bush Presidency and that have carried on though to the Obama administration. Like the results or not, at least we now have more information, from his viewpoint, on the why, what, and how he functioned.

My feelings toward George W Bush as a President run the gambit of respect and support to frustration, disappointment, and dismay. Perhaps most of the missteps were due to bad advice - but in the end history will only remember that it was his Presidency. Chaney, Rowe, Rice, Rumsfeld, Powell or so many others that cycled through his administration will only be footnotes, at best.

Those who are elected to the Presidency are not suddenly granted infinite wisdom (Carter is a good example of this - but I did like his energy policies). Errors in judgments, policies, decisions or actions have a way of taking on a life of their own.and most often can not be returned to the paper that authorized them.

I think that both Presidents Bush did their best, but in the end - while I respect them both - I was disappointed in both. However, I think that they are strong enough to get past that with only a little loss of sleep..

My biggest complaint about this recording is the poor edition. the gaps between chapters are unconscionably long and detract from (and maybe even devalue) the message. I do not have a single audio book in my collect that has gaps like this. I can only wonder if was not an intentional slight - sort of a parting shot at his legacy.

Decision Point _ Read by George W. Bush

Let me first say I both agree with and disagree with many things he did while President and I do not conceder him my idle or stupid. I wanted to read this book to see if I could understand some of the calls he had to make while in office and I chose the one Narrated by himself over the other, because i felt it was better to hear it from the man that made the calls and not someone just reading it.

He goes over many points in his life as well as his running for office and during the time he was in office. He gets to the details on some and clearly makes you understand what happened and why he made the calls he did. I respect him for being able to accept that he is not perfect and is honorable enough to say it and stand up for what he believes. But even when his beliefs were conflicting with a call he had to make, he seemed to get as much information as he could before making the call and sometime went against his own will because that is what either had to be done or was the right thing to do.

This is a very well written book and I recommend getting the audible book narrated by him. It just make you feel like you are sitting in the room listening to him explain decisions (right and wrong) he made in his like.

Decision Points

The story of GW Bush will ultimately be recorded in the history books, but this book gives an amazing peek behind the seines peek at an honest man with a tremendous respect for the office he held.
