Publisher's summary

President George W. Bush describes the critical decisions of his presidency and personal life.

Decision Points is the extraordinary memoir of America’s 43rd president. Shattering the conventions of political autobiography, George W. Bush offers a strikingly candid journey through the defining decisions of his life. In gripping, never-before-heard detail, President Bush brings listeners inside the Texas Governor’s Mansion on the night of the hotly contested 2000 election; aboard Air Force One on 9/11, in the hours after America’s most devastating attack since Pearl Harbor; at the head of the table in the Situation Room in the moments before launching the war in Iraq; and behind the Oval Office desk for his historic and controversial decisions on the financial crisis, Hurricane Katrina, Afghanistan, Iran, and other issues that have shaped the first decade of the 21st century.

President Bush writes honestly and directly about his flaws and mistakes, as well as his accomplishments reforming education, treating HIV/AIDS in Africa, and safeguarding the country amid chilling warnings of additional terrorist attacks. He also offers intimate new details on his decision to quit drinking, discovery of faith, and relationship with his family.

A groundbreaking new brand of memoir, Decision Points will captivate supporters, surprise critics, and change perspectives on one of the most consequential eras in American history - and the man at the center of events.

Informative

A well written and informative book. By focusing on a subject I got a clearer understanding of his position than I had from the news media even the ones that don't hate him. They must move on to the next day's sensational news. I still don't agree with some decisions but then neither does he. That is reality as opposed to the sound bites prefered by shallow minds, journalists and politicians. (While informative, it will not change the mind of anyone who hates him.)

Well read, content surprisingly good

Not a great fan of the politics of 43, but this book sets out the case for the defense pretty well. Exceptionally well read. Structure makes it easy to dip in and out. Recommend!

Fascinating insight

What made the experience of listening to Decision Points the most enjoyable?

The narrator sounded a lot like GWB. It was the way President Bush structured the story. What was going on that the public saw and what was going on behind the scenes and his personal recollections of those moments.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Decision Points?

The retelling of that moment in that elementary school when he was given the news about the Towers being hit. Pres Bush caught a lot of crap about that, liberal media saying he just sat there not reacting but when I see that news footage what I saw was a man deeply concerned but also not wanting to frighten a room full of young children. Think about the information he had to process, who among us could wrap our minds around what was happening that morning and the President had an audience of children. I applaud how he handled that moment. Actually I applaud how President Bush handled himself throughout those next few weeks, he shared our outrage and DID SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes but of course that wasn't possible

Any additional comments?

I am so glad President Bush wrote this book, it shed light on issues for me that I found fascinating.

Great Book

What made the experience of listening to Decision Points the most enjoyable?

What made it enjoyable for me was being able to look behind the scene and see why the decisions were made the way they were on certain issues. It helped to see what all happened in his decision making and what led to his decisions.

Which scene was your favorite?

The story of him going to the 9-11 sight after the attack and being with the rescue workers after the attack and his speech that he gave.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Why I did what I did.

Polite and Professional

Readers won't learn any deep, dark secrets but will find out a lot more about the personable, leader-servant that is W. He doesn't shy away from calling out political partisanship but does it in a professional way.

Love W

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would not only recommend this book to a friend, but even a democrat! I true leader and patriot. There was never a doubt if W was looking out for our country. A great family man and who had great role models. Those who believe he is aloof are sadly mistaken.

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

His devotion to God, Country and Family

What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?

The respect he has for his mom and dad. His loyalty to his subordinates-he was a great listener and a man of conviction.

Interesting

His father was much better prepared to be president when he first took office but GB 43rd grew into the role and accomplished a lot. I listened to this book right after his father’s book. If I had it to do over again I would have waited a few weeks between books. During the first part of this book I kept subconsciously comparing the two presidents and I don’t think that is fair. They are different people that had to deal with different issues.
