Deceived: A True Story | [Sarah Smith, Kate Snell]

Deceived: A True Story

In 1993, student Sarah Smith met Robert Freegard. Peace was shattered when an IRA bomb went off near her college and in the aftermath Freegard revealed his "true" identity to Sarah - he was an MI5 spy investigating IRA cells. Because of her knowledge of his true identity, Freegard convinced Sarah to go into hiding. Thus began a spine-chilling story.

Sarah became a fugitive and Freegard became the only person she trusted. So when, 10 years later, the police arrived, she could not believe what they were telling her: Freegard was not an MI5 agent, he was a conman, and she was one of many victims...

    "educational and inspirational"

Not what I expected but interesting and inspiring. Informative in respect of brainwashing and psychological tools to 'control' people without being too heavy or academic. A bit more of Sarah's actual story would have been good, that part was a bit impersonal - as if it was happening to someone else and not her.

    "Bizarre and compelling!"

A tale of group brainwashing by a two-bit mad genius.
